In this sequel to BRUCE ALMIGHTY, newscaster Evan Baxter (Steve Carrell, THE 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN) has traded in the news desk for a post in Washington as a congressman. Though his...
more...campaign was based on the idea of changing the world, Evan drives a gas-guzzling SUV and spends more time trimming his nose hair than with his three sons. When he has a strange encounter with God (Oscar winner Morgan Freeman, reprising his role from the first film), God tells him to build an ark, just as Noah did thousands of years ago. Though Evan is sceptical, he finally accepts the task after being hounded by dozens of animals that follow him, two by two. By obeying God, Evan risks his family, career, and sanity--but will a flood actually come and prove him right? EVAN ALMIGHTY is a pure family affair, a squeaky clean film that kids and parents can enjoy equally. With hundreds of animals, poop jokes are inevitable, and they're worthy of a chuckle or two. With his roles in THE 40 YEAR OLD VIRGIN and THE OFFICE, Carrell has capitalised on playing awkward characters. The (over)confident Evan is quite a change, and it's interesting to see Carrell stretch his comedic muscle. Though EVAN ALMIGHTY also features the talents of Lauren Graham (GILMORE GIRLS) and Coen Brothers favorite John Goodman, the funniest lines and delivery come from Wanda Sykes (THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE) and Jonah Hill (KNOCKED UP) as members of Evan's staff. Most of the film's jokes garner giggles, but the lines from this pair get guffaws.

Even Almighty is a warm hearted, family film for kids of all ages. This tale with a moral, will supply lots of laugh and entertaining moments. Most of the 'gags' are visual and easily enjoyed by younger members of the family.

Released in 2007 and released on DVD as a wide screen movie, intended to be a sequel to 2003 film Bruce Almighty but can stand alone in its own right.

Evan Baxter (Steve Carell of 40 Year Old Virgin fame) leaves his job as a Buffalo newscaster for a new life changing position as a newly elected Congressman. Determined to do good his vision is to "Change the World".

Moving his family to Virginia his world was about to change, but not in the way he planned it to. Half-heartedly Evan prays for guidance, as he knows that with great power comes great responsibility. Little does he realise that his prayers are answered very quickly.

Starting the day earlier than he intended, his alarm clock a Gen digital goes off at 6:14,flashing up Gen 6:14 his first clue to the strange events about to befall him.

A house warming gift, a box filled with old tools, mysteriously appears at his front door a truckload of wood is delivered to Evan's house.

Ultimately, God (Morgan Freeman) appears to Evan, and commands him to build an ARK in the middle of a new housing development experiencing the driest weather on record. He is also instructed to fill it with animals to protect them against a coming flood.
With a little persuasion from God, and a series of incredibly funny events including animal magnetism of an alarming kind, facial hair re-growing as it is shaved and being unable to wear any clothes other than 'biblical robes' Evan to build an ARK.

Steve Carrell subtly acting his heart out his slapstick capering offers many laugh out loud moments. This comedy is helped along with superb visuals from the many animal co-stars, not to mention superb one-liners from his human co-stars.

. Morgan Freeman is a very convincing 'God' and this writer would be quite happy to enter the Pearly Gates and find Morgan God awaiting me. There is a moment during the film were god gives some comfort to Evans wife Joan, explain that thing we ask for are not always given to us in ways we expect. Up until this point Evan's increasingly weird behaviour and dress code have alienated him from family, friends and co-workers, Of course Joan then rallies the family to support Evan.

Ultimately a happy 'all is well' ending, leaves the viewer feeling happy and it is hoped somewhat thought provoked.

One cannot end a review of this film without mentioning Evens dance, referred to as The Dance, a crazy little jig, which Evan performs when happy. A very nice touch to this movie is the end credits where everyone involved in the making of the film gets to perform The Dance and we see the film producer and director announcing the film is a 'wrap' A nice happy moment.
I truly enjoyed this film why don't you!
