Eric Sykes - The Best Of Eric Sykes DVD

Advantages: great, classic and funny
Disadvantages: a bit short

...This is a very good DVD for all of the family and for anyone who just want a really big laugh on the sofa. With the brilliance of Eric Sykes and Tommy Cooper makes it superb and very special to anyone as it was certainly a treat for me. I have got to admit that I produced really good laughter on these two little films and the casting and storylines are great. It is the kind of DVD you just want to watch over and over again as you cannot take your eyes of this as it is really funny to watch. Although these two films are not on for long with the duration you can easily enjoy the quick and superb humour that this DVD produces.... Read review

Advantages: Real Gothic Ghost story
Disadvantages: It's a shame "The 6th Sense" got there first

...Nicole Kidman would not seem the best casting for this following her other films, but she plays the part of a protective mother extremely well. But that is nothing to do with the story. With mist, the remote location, the large house and such perfect characterisation by the director Alejandro Amenabar - this film really draws you into its world. The two children are immpeccably cast and remind me of the brother and sister in Mary Poppins (except this IS a serious flm). The tension is drawn out and out - the story moves extremely slowly, but this is its beauty. Like an Edgar Allan Poe or HP Lovecraft novel, this film will leave you shuddering as the film will not reveal itself until the very end. Incidentally Eric Sykes is surprisingly good as a serious gardener. As for the DVD - there is a fascinating and incitful documentary... Read review

Advantages: Edge of the chair stuff.
Disadvantages: Slow burning.

...The Others is an excellent film which really is edge of the seat stuff. It is set in a manor house on Jersey at the end of the second world war. Life seems to be going really well for Grace, Nicole Kidman, and her 2 children until one day 3 new servants, including Eric Sykes as the gardener, enter the house and everything begins to change. The children have a disease which has no cure and they are photosensitive, which means that they can not be exposed to anything more than a dim candle light. With the whole house cloaked in darkness things don’t seem to sound the same and the eyrie feeling of a ghostly presents appears to have entered the house. With some heart stopping moments as Grace searches for the intruders who have invaded her house and are terrorising her family. An excellent film with a wicked and unexpected twisted... Read review
