Advantages: Excellent film of this historic 1971 concert. Disadvantages: -
...An excellent package for any George Harrison (and friends) fan. Disc 1 features the concert which took place on 1st August 1971 at 2.30pm and 8pm at Madison Square Garden. A forerunner to Live Aid, the concert was to aid the people of Bangla Desh after floods had desimated their land.
George's songs - Wah-Wah; My Sweet Lord; Awaiting on you all; Beware of Darkness; While my Guitar Gently Weeps; Here Comes the Sun; Something and Bangla Desh are played between Ravi Shankar's Bangla Dhun; Billy Preston's That's the Way God Planned it; Ringo Starr's It don't Come Easy; Leon Russell's medley Jumpin' Jack Flash/Young Blood and Bob Dylan's It takes a lot to Laugh, it takes a Train to Cry; Blowin' in the Wind and Just Like a Woman. Singers are ably backed by EricClapton, Jim Keltner; Jesse ed Davis; Klaus Voormann and 'Apple' band Badfinger...

Advantages: The cream of British comedy, value for money, Disadvantages: Poor sound and video quality
.... There are also lots of new sketches, and stand up comedy.
I particularly enjoyed the early Rowan Atkinson sketches. There are two using his mime skills, as well as his famous Headmaster sketch.
Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie are also excellent, as is Peter Cook. Alan Bennet's Telegram, the Card Dance and the Four Yorkshiremen are also highlights. There are, however, a few weaker sketches that seem to have been rushed together at the last minute, for example the Courtroom Sketch. Some of the stand-up is a bit lacking too. For only around £3 per DVD in the set, one can skip the weaker sections without feeling too guilty.
In between the comedy is music. Again, this is performed by some of the greatest artists of the time. These include John Williams, Sting, EricClapton, Jeff Beck. Phil Collins, Duran Duran, Mark Knopfler, Bob Geldof, Lou Reed, Jools...

Advantages: A well-produced record of a unique event Disadvantages: Wish there was another four hours!
...listen to We're Going Wrong: apart from the gorgeous chords, just get the vocals. How does he DO that?
This wasn't nostalgia, this was a great blues/rock trio at the very height of their powers .... wait a minute, did I not write that 37 years ago after the Sunday at the Saville gigs in London? But, readers, that's what it WAS! The reason this worked so well is that Clapton, despite using a Strat rather than an SG or a Les Paul, playede beautifully, Ginger hammered the kit as well as ever and Jack Bruce played like a 20 year-old. The proof is here to see - it's undeniable.
Not long after this concert, my wife bumped into Eric - she was waitressing. Eric signed programmes for Cream 37 years apart, signed the book and also a mug for my daughter. "To Izzie, from Eric". Superstar takes time for 14 year-old. What a decent man, and waht...
