I also thought this was a rushed job and if they had spent that little bit more time on it, this would have been the film of the century. Most of the book is Eragon and Brom trying to make their way to a city to fight the Urgals and destroy Galbatorix once and for all. The DVD shows no evidence of this and just sails through the chapters without considering the major issues within the book. While the fights in the book last for almost two chapters, the movie shows them for mere minutes before quickly moving on to the next subject and not taking into account all the tiny bits which make the book such a huge hit. The book quotes that it was 'The Sunday Times' bestseller but I would strongly say that this film would struggle to make the the top 100 movies of 2007. One good thing, if anything, in this film is the special effects which have obviously been taken care of very precisely and carefully. The characters in the book are not nearly as portrayed in the film as they are in the book. I understand that they can't put everything into a film but I feel that it wouldn't hurt them to make this film at least two and a half hours. I read this book thinking not only that it would be a strange and good book to read but also that when the film came out, I would be prepared to be dazzled by it's contents. I didn't see that in the film and frankly. I am dissappointed in this project. This film had the idea, it just didn't have the 'wow' factor and I think that's what people look for when they watch a film that has been made from a book. My advice to anyone who wants to buy this short film is that you read the book first and if you feel what I felt from the book, don't buy the film. I hope you enjoyed reading my review and hope you read many of my future reviews.
Advantages: some parts were gripping Disadvantages: taking some ideas from some other films
the film
basically this film is about a boy (eragon) who discovers a dragon egg and becomes a dragon rider and learns more about the dragons and drangon riders history than just hearing t he stories.
bad points
in this film i noticed a kind of lord of the rings harry potter sort of thing going on which unfortunatley i think isnt very good because they need to come up with their own ideas. like with the red sword it glows red whenever something ... ...sword whenever orcs come by.
recomended to young children as its like a fantasy film its not really something the older ones tend to go for.
personal veiw
very much like harry potter and lord of the rings again it does have some good parts in it which are gripping but it seemed to drag a little ...

Advantages: Good animation and action Disadvantages: Predictable, average, disappointing
It’s hard to describe this film in just one sentence, but I think I’ve got it: one massive cliché.
There’s a good guy who’s the unwilling ‘chosen one’, and evil guy trying to control the world, evil guy’s servant, an army of strange creatures only made for killing, an old man who guides the good guy, a woman who doesn’t seem to do very much, and an untrustworthy guy that comes in mid-way and saves the good guy. And before you say, ‘Isn’t that Lord ... ...it. And the dragon makes all the difference.
What this plot does mean, however, is that there are ample opportunities to throw in a couple of clichés. Actually, more than a couple. I lost count at fifty. My personal favourites of are, is ‘It’s your fate to be a dragon-rider’ and ‘You’re the only one who can do it.’
There’s something about the over-dramatic use of the words ‘destiny’, ‘fate’ and ‘chosen’ that really annoys me. They’re just so damn ...

...the third person but shows Eragon what he must expect in his new future. The story goes that when he recieves a dragon egg he gives a land that is ruled by a cruel king the hope of a brighter future.
For the action fans there are plenty of fights and thrills with a glorious battle towards the end. While for the chick flick lovers there is the promise of a romantic development between Eragon and Arya played by Sienna Guillory. The film keeps a good ...

...guy in the name of Eragon who must save the Dragon Riders, and save the Kingdom from Evil......
There is a big fight near the end of the film when evil comes to fight against the good in a secret place behind a waterfall. So its very like LOTR films.
The story is a bit Cliché to other film's previously made. The character's are played quite well. The sound and picture on the Blue Ray is spectacular, much clearer sound and graphics. The picture ...

Advantages: special features are very good Disadvantages: very predictable
this is the story of a farm boy who gets his life changed forever when he finds an egg. this leads him to be a hero and he meets many new people on the way. this is a very typical story and is quite predictable, however there are a few added twists. i have recently bought this product and after watching it a couple of times i realised i shouldnt have. alot of the acting in this is very over the top and it seems that after a few watches you realise ... ...are however deleted scenes on the DVD which i enjoyed and a few i thought they should have added. overall i feel that you should think twice about buying this product as it doesnt appeal to everyone and its storyline is very predictable. there is a good side to this movie and that is that the ending is incredible good and leaves it open for the other three and although isnt the best movie in the world it makes you want to watch the other movies. ...

A magical ride and must-see for fantasy fans (News of the World, 13/03/2007)
DVD Description
Based on the first novel in Christopher Paolini’s popular INHERITANCE trilogy, ERAGON is a fantastical adventure in a vein similar to that of the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy and THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA. A classic story of a quest driven by destiny and set in a land where elves, magicians, and humans live side by side, the battle between good and evil, innocence and cynicism, is taken up once again. John Malkovitch camps it up as the evil King Galbatorix, a former guardian of peace who long ago went over to the dark side. He now rules over a land from which dragons have all but disappeared, until humble farm boy Eragon (newcomer Edward Speelers) happens upon a mysterious blue object that turns out to be a dragon egg. Eragon befriends the charming dragon cub, Saphira (voiced with aplomb by Rachel Weisz), and becomes her rider, designating him as the principal warrior in the fight against evil. Jeremy Irons steals the show as the wise and mysterious old man who becomes Eragon’s mentor, guiding him through the tasks of saving a princess (Sienna Guillory) battling an evil sorcerer (Robert Carlyle, TRAINSPOTTING), and fending off hordes of the hideous Urgals. All of this will strike the seasoned fantasy viewer as familiar territory, but the formula is given life by veterans Malkovitch and Irons, as well as the young Speelers. The film was shot mostly in Hungary, whose breathtaking landscape combines to great effect with excellent cinematography. The special effects, created by LORD OF THE RINGS’ Digital Magic and STAR WARS’ Industrial Light and Magic, more than live up to the precedent set by those films, while the dragon is film’s true star.
