Enter the Dragon on DVD is totally uncut, showing all the martial arts scenes in full....many not seen in the TV film. The film was first shown in 1973. Sadly this was Bruce Lees final film, and many feel his best. Bruce passed away age 32 before the film was released so never knew the impact this film would have on fans.
The film was shot in Asia, and directed by US director Robert Clouse. The opening music score is by Lala Schifrin (Mission impossible etc) The film was Lees entree into Hollywood. The dubbing isn't fabulous, and the storyline simple, even the Chinese philosopy seems cheesy, but this was made for the American audience, at a time when martial arts was not as popular as it is nowdays.
John Saxon and Jim Kelly and Ahna Capri co star in this film, and a lot of time is given to their own issues, but once at the island when the tournament starts Lee takes over. Various competitions show Kung Fu, Karate, Tae Kwon Do, Hap Ki Do and Escrima. There is a fabulous sequence with Bruce Lee showing his skills with Nunchaku. The fight scenes are choreographed by Lee himself, and provide ample opportunity for him to 'showcase' his art.
The story follows Lees character as he plays a Shoalin monk recruited by British Intelligence to attend a martial arts tournament on a private island with a view to gathering information. The tournament is ran by the evil one handed Han (played by Shih Kien), who is involved with and the opium trade, and runs a prostitute ring. When Lee discovers Han is responsible for the suicide of his sister the assignment turns personal. Lee travels to the island, along with other characters played by John Saxon and Jim Kelly ( each with their own stories), and participates in the tournament. Martial arts fans will see how he adapts his style to combat different fighting styles. Lees power explodes on the screen. The film concludes with a fabulous display of this talent in the Hall of Mirrors, where he seek revenge against Han for the death of his sister and his friends. This is a memorable scene. Extra features on the DVD include @ 17 minute interview with Linda Lee Cadwell, Backyard workout with Bruce, 4 trailers, 7 TV spots and an introduction by Linda Lee, and not to be skipped 'Bruce in his own words'.
The film is 99 minutes long and has an 18 rating.
The film is excellent, Lees ability in mind blowing, and just to please 'LEE IS THE MAN!'....
