INTRO & STORYLINE Pure class. My favourite genre of movies is thriller so immediately this caught my eye when I was in the video store. Slim, a working class waitress at a shabby restaurant has nothing good going for her. One day her life is transformed as she meets and then marries a wealthy contractor named Mitch. Life could not be better for Slim, how perfect an idealist home, a beautiful 5-year-old daughter and a great husband, so she thought any way. After a while Mitch begins to change. He is no longer the caring and loving man Slim married but someone who sleeps with other women for fun. Mitch becomes abusive and violent. Due to various beatings and threats Slim and daughter run away in the chance of starting a new life. Unfortunately for Slim he wants his daughter and refuses to leave her alone, and continues to threaten her. Slim realises that this has to stop, so she toughens herself mentally and physically, as she needs to tell Mitch that she’s had Enough. ‘Self defence isn’t murder’.
TAKE
A CLOSER LOOK… A feel good movie of the year! : O ). The storyline is great throughout and there are a lot of nail biting moments. People say that this type of film has been done before and I agree it somewhat has elements from parts of different films but I believe that there were not executed as well as this one. It is full of heart racing sequences with loads of tense moments, which put you on the edge of your seat. You can really become a part of the movie and get into it and at the end when she faces up to Mitch you get a great buzz. (Quite sad, but I like to get into my films!). J’Lo almost becomes a super hero with some of the movies she does and traps she sets. This part of the film may have some viewers thinking that it is unrealistic as she could not do that (without revealing what she does) with just a couple of weeks training.
It has to be said that Jennifer Lopez has a record of not being the best actor in the world, but she was sensational playing the role of the trodden on wife, Slim. I feel that no Hollywood actress could have done a better job of it. She really was outstanding. Billy Campbell plays a great role of the evil wife beater and is very believable to watch. If you saw him in the streets you would dislike him and not bother asking him for his autograph, as you would actually believe he beats up women! On the whole acting is very impressive. For some reason though the director decided to place captions in the movie throughout such as “how they met” “to have and to hold” “hey”. The only possible reason I can think of why the director did this is to help the audience follow the narrative, which is very easy to understand any way. Some people may take this as the film is trying to insult there intelligence but really isn’t, its just a different way of directing I suppose. Would make more sense to do it on more complicated films, but hey there’s flaws to everything. It does not occur too much, which isn’t so bad. Also the subtitle for the movie which is found on the front of the box and on the back is “self defence isn’t murder” which can be said to give away the ending slightly.
The UK certificate for the movie is 15, which I would say is accurate as there is quite a lot of violence and some scenes that can offend light hearted people. Saying that though there are no real sexual references or bad language. The film is a nice length and you do not feel like the crew were trying to make a specific time, as it is great viewing throughout. Running time is approx 115 minutes. The director of the movie is Michael Apted who really did a super job. CONCLUSION On the whole enough is a thriller, which has everything going for it, a great storyline, brilliant acting and it is well directed. The film plays with emotions and always keeps you guessing like any good thriller should. If you like thrillers then this is for you, this is defiantly in the top 10 movies I have ever seen, and that’s A LOT. Watch this movie! 11/10!!
