Robert Dean (Will Smith) is a labor lawyer who is unknowingly in possession of evidence related to a serious politically motivated crime. Government agents eager to hide their...

In an attempt to clear his name and reclaim his life, Dean teams up with the reclusive Brill (Gene Hackman), a former federal employee who has as much high-tech equipment and expertise as the government itself. Hackman's role is an extension of Harry Caul, the character he portrayed in Francis Ford Coppola's brilliant 1974 film, THE CONVERSATION. Smith scores as a man who is desperate to reclaim his identity and prove his innocence. This intense technological thrill-ride from director Tony Scott questions how much access the government should have to the communications of private citizens, and leaves the viewer with the unsettling feeling that Big Brother is definitely watching. Watch for the uncredited appearances of Jason Robards, Seth Green, Tom Sizemore, and Philip Baker Hall.

Director: Tony Scott

Writer: David Marconi
Stars: Will Smith, Gene Hackman, Jason Lee, Jon Voight, Lisa Bonet, Scott Caan, Regina King and Jack Black.

Released in late 1998 this movie starring the brilliant Will Smith and Gene Hackman creates a thriller of immense proportion with the story of a man whose easy life changes in a split second.

**BRIEF PLOT**

A team of NSA agents, under orders from above, take the life of a congressman and cover up the murder to make it look like a suicide, unbeknown to them is that the murder is witnessed and the evidence is about to become public knowledge.

However, before going the public, the evidence falls into the hands of the unsuspecting attorney Robert Clayton Dean, (played by Will Smith), who is then pursued by NSA team under the orders of Thomas Reynolds, (played by Jon Voight).

With Dean working on a case involving some mafia members he is unaware that his life is in danger from another source.

Things become chaotic as the attorney runs for his life from the NSA team, with no inkling as to why he is the target. The power that Thomas has as a congressman is such that he easily discredits Deans life and reputation, leaving the attorney nothing.

Dean does his best to try to understand what is happening, involving his contacts and a very strange and secretive person named 'Brill', (played by Gene Hackman).

Brill makes Dean understand what is happening and tells him what to do, but as neither men know why Dean is being pursued the men are still in limbo.

**IN CONCLUSION**

I sat and watched this movie as a Will Smith fan, knowing most of his movies are worth at least one viewing, the fact that Gene Hackman is in it made me think that this one would be a great action packed movie with a great plot.
And how right I was….

It is a great action packed movie full of thrill, twists and turns, giving the audience everything it wants.

Will Smith is at his best as the unfortunate attorney whose life changes in the blink of an eye. He controls the movie well, acting as the hen pecked attorney who suddenly has to live life on the run.
Gene Hackman is, as always, brilliant in his role as the paranoid, secretive outlaw, albeit towards the end of the movie. He brings a more sinister role to the movie as he reveals what the government could actually be doing and how private peoples lives really are.
The story is well written, using the audiences own paranoia about being under surveillance from the government powers to really bring out a special kind of movie.

Will Smith doesn't let his career down with his part in this fantastic thriller, neither does Gene Hackman, as the highly strung individual.

Would I recommend this movie…?
Yes I certainly would.
It has everything a great movie needs, thrills, action, chases, romance and some interesting stunts…
Well worth a viewing even if you're a Will Smith virgin….so to speak.
