Advantages: Funny, Gripping, Action-Packed Disadvantages: Maybe Too Fast In Parts
Enemy of the State stars Will Smith as an attorney in America who represents a big chunk of Mafia families, criminals and all manner of people, until he meets an old friend...
All the big names are in this one. Not only Will Smith from films like Men In Black, but Jack Black, Seth Green and Jason Lee from My Name is Earl all make apperences in this picture. It really is packed in there.
And stil the quality is not effected. The plot thickens as ... ...the NSA and a whole host of other people. This leads to some spectacular stunts and big explosions.
The plot is based around the death of a State congressman, who appears to have died due to a heart attack. But when a bird watcher at the local pond catches the death on video tape, things start to turn nasty for the once innocent attorney and everyone around him.
Like a lot of Will Smith's movies, many parts are funny and comical at the same time ...

Advantages: The dangers of a Big Brother society Disadvantages: You have to suspend belief
This film poses some interesting questions about personal privacy and government institutions.
One minute you have it all. Money, good job, influence, a great family.....then, by a small twist of fate, you lose it all............
Will Smith does a great job of being the hot-shot lawyer falling from his Ivory Tower yet using his wit and cunning to help him rise from the ashes.
As ever Gene Hackman is a solid character in the film. He plays a disgruntled ...

Advantages: Hopefully no more ghastly "Widescreen" banner Disadvantages: No Features worth looking at
..., and looks to Brill (Hackman) to help clear both their names.
I was very interested to see how this DVD would turn out. Enemy of the State is a Buena Vista release, after all. This studio believes it's library of titles is far too extensive to waste time bulking up on special features. The first thing I noticed about this title is the lack of that hideous "Widescreen" banner Buena Vista typically places on the front of their releases. This time, it has been put only on the side. It's very small and out of the way there; I hope this is where it stays. They finally shed that terrible Widescreen banner? Well then, maybe they'll also surprise with some great special features.
No such luck. Enemy of the State features a theatrical trailer and two very short, useless featurettes. There are three additional trailers, but they're used as promos...

Advantages: good plot Disadvantages: lisa bonet is a bit superfluous
...Will Smith plays a civil rights lawyer who unwittingly gets caught up in a murder and conspiracy within the US National Security agency.
His wife is forever telling him that they are always under threat (as is everyone else) of losing their rights to privacy as a result of
encroachment by the state. In Smith's case it starts to come true with startling effects.
Basically Jon Voigt has a Senator killed because of this refusal to lend support to a snooping bill. Unknown to them they are filmed committing the crime. When they find out they track down the holder of the tape. It is transferred, unknown to Smith, into his shopping by the holder, an old cllege friend of Smith.
The NSA then raid Smith's house to get it back and smear his character, he loses his job, has to leave home, credit cards are stopped etc. He remains unaware...

DVD Description
Robert Dean (Will Smith) is a labor lawyer who is unknowingly in possession of evidence related to a serious politically motivated crime. Government agents eager to hide their guilt believe that Dean is on to them, and proceed to turn his life upside-down, ruin his reputation, and frame him for various incidents, thanks to the latest in high-tech government surveillance techniques. In an attempt to clear his name and reclaim his life, Dean teams up with the reclusive Brill (Gene Hackman), a former federal employee who has as much high-tech equipment and expertise as the government itself. Hackman's role is an extension of Harry Caul, the character he portrayed in Francis Ford Coppola's brilliant 1974 film, THE CONVERSATION. Smith scores as a man who is desperate to reclaim his identity and prove his innocence. This intense technological thrill-ride from director Tony Scott questions how much access the government should have to the communications of private citizens, and leaves the viewer with the unsettling feeling that Big Brother is definitely watching. Watch for the uncredited appearances of Jason Robards, Seth Green, Tom Sizemore, and Philip Baker Hall.
