A Congressman is murdered when he refuses to cooperate with a politician, Thomas Reynolds. Unfortunately, the whole incident is accidentally filmed by a journalist who, when he realises what he has, makes a copy of the film. He is murdered because of it, but not before he has passed a disc on to his friend, successful lawyer Robert Clayton Dean. At first, Dean doesn't realise what his friend has done and is bemused by all the attention that he is getting. However, he soon catches on and uses his contacts to get himself out of trouble. When one of them dies, however, Dean soon decides that he ... more

Enemy of the State was made in 1998 and was directed by Tony Scott. It stars two of Hollywood’s leading actors, Will Smith and Gene Hackman. Will, who I’m sure everyone has heard of, is well known for his humour and his role in the TV comedy series ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel Air’. Gene is probably more famous for his roles in many hit films such as ‘Behind Enemy Lines’ and ‘Heartbreakers’. Other actors/actresses you may now recognise include Lisa Bonet, Jon Voight, Regina King, Jason Lee, Jake Busey and Scott Caan. In fact it is such a spectacular ... more

Advantages Advantages Thoughtful storyline about a modern day dilemma

Disadvantages Disadvantages I've seen the ending somewhere else before...

I think Kurt Cobain was the one who sang “You are not paranoid if they are really after you”. Well for all those people who believe that “Big Brother” is out there watching us – then this film confirms your suspicions. The main thread of the story line is the campaign to legalise the surveillance of everybody and everything in the USA. The fighting force pushing this campaign is a maverick politician who has been carrying out his own illegal surveillance using unauthorised resources and the agents of the National Security Agency (N.S.A.). He is even willing to resort to murder to obtain his ... more

Advantages Advantages Great forward thinking film

Disadvantages Disadvantages Certain plot holes, but it's a film!

Director Tony Scott has an impressive CV. Films include Days Of Thunder, The Last Boy Scout and True Romance. In 1998, he took the helm for the Will Smith blockbusting spy thriller Enemy Of The State, a film which took paranoia to a new level. The Plot Lawyer Robert Dean comes across an old friend who hands him a package. Accepting the package as he watches his friends disappear at a pace, Dean could not know the trouble he was getting himself into. Thus follows a frenetic cat and mouse chase where he is pursued by the NSA goons trying to cover up a political assassination. The only man who ... more
