DVD Description
In ENEMY OF THE STATE, Robert Dean (Will Smith) is a labour lawyer who is unknowingly in possession of evidence related to a serious politically motivated crime. Government agents eager to hide their guilt believe that Dean is on to them, and proceed to turn his life upside-down, ruin his reputation, and frame him for various incidents, thanks to the latest in high-tech government surveillance techniques.
ARMAGEDDON - A low earth orbit space station is in the middle of a repair mission with the space shuttle when an unforeseen meteor shower obliterates them both. This sudden event sends fireballs hurtling to Earth and scientists scurrying to telescopes. An amateur astronomer is the first to spy a gigantic fireball headed towards the planet and notifies NASA. Turner (Thornton) informs the president of the asteroid and describes it as being the size of Texas, a planet-killer. With eighteen days to impact, NASA frantically tries to find a solution but ends up turning to an outside contractor. Harry Stamper (Willis) and his team of ragamuffin roughneck oilmen are called upon to save the planet as only they can.
Advantages: Good enjoyable escapism, ability to see impressive cast in mainstream roles Disadvantages: Slightly erratic direction, predictable plotline
...This film was a somewhat refreshing relief after the multitude of recent big scale action movies which have just been full of Gung-Ho American patriotic references (see Independence Day, Armageddon, The Patriot etc.) Although having said that, the "bad guy" as played by Christopher Eccleston is considered as somewhat psychotic, mainly due to the fact that he is British! This is just a great fun throwaway film with impressive car chase sequences and the odd bit of witty dialogue. The one stand-out feature of this film for me was the cast, it seems many actors have little problem with a lapse in artistic credibility just to work under Jerry Bruckheimer. The cast features relative newcomers Scott Caan(Enemy Of The State), Giovanni Ribisi(Saving Private Ryan/Friends) and Timothy Olyphant(GO) as well as seasoned actors Nic Cage and Robert...

Advantages: A Great action flick, with guns, explosions and fast paced Disadvantages: Not enough Ed Harris
...-paced, action packed movie, and is a must for those that like this action and adventure. It has an all-star cast and the special effects, cinematography, acting and music are all top drawer. The director (Michael Bay) and producers (Don Simpson and Jeffery Bruckheimer) have done a superb job on this film, and if you liked any of their previous movies they worked on, then this film is a must for you! (Enemy of the State, Bad Boys, Armageddon, Crimson Tide)
I loved this film, as its has great action scenes ( eg.shower room ) and some great one liners from all the cast members. There is nothing better than watching this movie with a cold beer and a pizza for a typical "lads" film !

Advantages: Hopefully no more ghastly "Widescreen" banner Disadvantages: No Features worth looking at
..., and looks to Brill (Hackman) to help clear both their names.
I was very interested to see how this DVD would turn out. Enemy of the State is a Buena Vista release, after all. This studio believes it's library of titles is far too extensive to waste time bulking up on special features. The first thing I noticed about this title is the lack of that hideous "Widescreen" banner Buena Vista typically places on the front of their releases. This time, it has been put only on the side. It's very small and out of the way there; I hope this is where it stays. They finally shed that terrible Widescreen banner? Well then, maybe they'll also surprise with some great special features.
No such luck. Enemy of the State features a theatrical trailer and two very short, useless featurettes. There are three additional trailers, but they're used as promos...
