With a fine cast and fun in-jokes, Disney's ENCHANTED is sure to cast a spell over both children and adults. It begins with a 2-D animation sequence reminiscent of the company's...
more...beloved past. Surrounded by dozens of cute animals, Giselle (voiced and later played by Amy Adams) sings about her desire to find her one true love. Meanwhile, a handsome prince (James Marsden) overhears her, and they meet and fall in love. In many Disney movies, this is where the story ends, but ENCHANTED is just starting out on its journey. The prince’s wicked stepmother (Susan Sarandon) can’t stand to lose her throne, so she pushes Giselle down a well, and the beauty ends up in the real world. Gone is the animated fantasy, and a live-action Giselle lands in the middle of Times Square in New York City. Her optimism and perkiness put her at odds with the New Yorkers she encounters, but she gets help from a cynical divorce lawyer (Patrick Dempsey) as she waits for her prince to rescue her.

Fans of Disney classics from SLEEPING BEAUTY to BEAUTY AND THE BEAST will be glad to see their favourite films referenced in ENCHANTED. Jodi Benson (the voice of Ariel in THE LITTLE MERMAID) makes a brief appearance, and the evil queen threatens to kill Giselle with a poisoned apple a la SNOW WHITE. Though it reminds the audience of past favourites, ENCHANTED boasts its own script that is at once intelligent and heartwarming. But the true highlight of the film is the acting by the fairy tale couple. Marsden (HAIRSPRAY) couldn’t be funnier as the charming prince, while Adams (an Oscar nominee for 2005’s JUNEBUG) gives dimension to the heroine. As a result, ENCHANTED is a film that deserves to sit on a shelf with Disney’s classics.

This is the Disney film we have been waiting a long time for - recapturing the magic that was once very much synoymous with the franchise.
Amy Adams plays Giselle who is taken from her magical animated fairy tale world into a very real 21st century New York where she meets complacent Robert (Patrick Dempsy) who takes her into his home despite being sceptical about who she really is and where she truly comes from. But Giselle's prince is not far behind travelling to the third dimension with the trusty chipmunk, pip. But their plans to be re-united are soon hindered by the evil queen, Narrissa, played by Susan Sarandon (The Client) and her hench man, Nathanielle (Timothy Spall) If having bad guys after you wasn't bad enough, Prince Edward, Giselle and pip have to struggle through the unknown in the form of traffic, divorce settlements, television sets and US bus drivers. But you know it will all end happily ever after!

This has all the key elements for a magical family movie:
Songs - highly memorable catchy tunes like 'How does she know that you love her' 'Happy working song' 'I've been dreaming of a loves first kiss'
Kitsch - Pure cheese with happy dance routines in public places and random moments bursting into song.
Furry creatures - As well as her cartoon friends, Giselle makes some knew furry and not so furry friends in the cities vermin. All good fun and the animation is extremely clever. Everyone will love pip, a very cute chipmunk who loses his voice.
Princess - The little girls will love this one, OTT princess with the big dresses and the ability to talk with creatures of the forest with her song.
Camp Villains - Susan Sarandon and Timothy Spall ham it up for this especially comical take on the traditional cartoon features.
Dragons - and this one talks.
Humour - there are some real laugh out loud moments in this film for adults and kiddies alike.

This film is harmless fun, enjoyable and something that our kids will want to watch again and again.

A good cast and some great animation. A strong story which reflects from most other fairy tales. Good soundtrack.

As a whole this film is definately worth a look. The film is suitable for most veiwers but some moments maybe a bit scarey for the very young ones.
