I have to say, I really love this movie. Its fun, a tad unpredictable, and yet you always know where its gonna go. Its the getting there that counts! From the opening moment, with Lucas in charge of cashing up, this film shows true, back to the 80's - style teen comedy a la The Breakfast Club.
The basic premise is this: one day in the lives of a group of people working in a small town record store. Only this isn't an average day. Its "Rex Manning Day", a musician revered by middle-aged mums, and camp gay men. Sadly he thinks he's God's gift to pop music. Stir in Lucas, a young man seemingly in the throes of a nervous breakdown after losing the previous day's takings in Atlantic City (he was on a mission, honest), who is now spouting zen-like comments and generally being way too calm for a man about to get mullered by his boss. With a bit of teen angst, and unrequited love thrown in for good measure.
There are some really loveable characters in this, great comic moments ("To your left, Rex Manning fans, you will see...."). The main downside is, that it feels a little short, as if it hasn't reached its full potential. On the other hand, cracking soundtrack, great ending, and some really surreal glued-quarters-as-art moments. God love shoplifter Warren Beatty for being the obnoxious teen you love to irritate, and Mark for being a total stoner. This film is officially fun.

I don't know anything about this movie, and your opinion hasn't given me any insight into what it's about! I have no inclination to watch it even though you rate it 5/5. ~Deenie~
