"Empire Records" is one of my most favourite films ever! It tells the story of the employees of a little US record store, and is a stunning little film. It stars Liv Tyler, Maxwell Caldfield and Renee Zeitweger (is that how you spell it? You know, the one from "Jerry Maguire" and "Me Myself And Irene"). The story revolves around one day in this particular store and man, what a day it is! For one, Lucas, one of the employees has gone loopy! He was entrusted by Joe (the owner) to cash up the previous night and instead of banking the cash, he went ot Atlantic City and gambled it all! (But his reasons for doing it were admirable, he found a letter about a proposed takeover by MusicTown, a chainstore for God's sake, and decided he'd make Joe the money to buy out the lease!) So Lucas is acting like a cross between Yoda and the little chinese guy from "Karate Kid" by spouting words of wisdom. Joe is mad, understandably, but it's also Rex Manning Day! Rex is a big star in the Barry Manilow mould, and is visiting the store, and one of the employees played by Liv, has decided that she's going to seduce him. Problem here is, she's a virgin and hasn't got a clue!
The cast are fantastic, there is truly not a dull moment. The plot races along and you're never quite sure what the hell is going to happen next or who it's going to happen to! I must have watched this over 50 times now and I'm still not bored with it! It has a fresh energy about it that is sometimes sadly lacking in movies!

Hi, just wanted to thank you for adding me to your COT, and to reply to your comment left on my Chocolat op. I have heard that the Chocolat book is a bit different from the film (as is so often the case) they have pretty much removed the question of how Vianne influences these people, if whe is a witch or not. I know that watching a film of a book you have loved is sometimes very dissapointing, as you already have a picture in your mind of the story. One way to maybe persuede your hubby to go....Juliette Binoche is quite lovely - and in places the film can be quite erotic in a gentle way, just make sure you have lots of lovely Chocolate to feed him!
