DVD Description
Two features. EMMA is set in 19th century England and centres on a young woman who spends so much time meddling in the affairs of others that she fails to recognise her own longings. Based on the novel by Jane Austen. MANSFIELD PARK is an adaptation of Austen's third published novel, set in early 19th century Portsmouth, England, concerns Fanny Price (O'Connor), an intelligent young woman who is sent to live with her mother's wealthy family. Settling into her new life, Fanny is treated poorly by everyone except her cousin Edmund (Miller). The pair connect immediately, and pretty soon deeper feelings emerge. The arrival of a conniving brother and sister duo cause a commotion, forcing Fanny to decide if she should succumb to her material surroundings, or remain true to her heart.

Introduction of the movie……….
While this film is directed by Taiwan-born Ang Lee; being his first English language film, the script is written by Emma Thompson herself, playing the leading role in the movie as well. Thompson's script won Academy award in 1995 for Best Adapted Screenplay and she also managed to have won a BAFTA Award for the Best Actress (1995). ...Crawford (Embeth Davidz) and Lady Bertram (Lindsay Duncan). The free spirited Crawfords are both really well played and the lack of morals associated with their sensibilties really gets across Jane Austens message in the book about the unacceptable nature of adultery. Mary Crawfords last speech about the furture of the Bertrams and her place in it is so well acted she just makes your skin crawl.
The film is shot in beautiful surroundings and the whole feel of the piece transports you to MansfieldPark and embroils you in the plot that unfolds. Not the best of the recent adaptions in my opinion but definitely worth watching again....

...Emma Woodhouse enjoys matchmaking for her friends. Unfortunately, in her attempts to forge what she sees as suitable couplings for her friends, Emma totally disregards their true feelings as well as her own. This leads to a variety of misunderstandings, the greatest of which centres around Harriet Smith whom Emma has befriended and whom she wishes to see well married. When Harriet finally does reveal her true love to Emma, Emma is suddenly forced to acknowledge her own feelings. Gwyneth Paltrow does a fantastic job playing Emma and the rest of the cast is equally good. This is a great adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel....
