A faithful, enchanting adaptation of Austen's nineteenth-century tale of Emma Woodhouse, a clever young woman whose mischievous matchmaking schemes nearly cost her her own shot at romance.

Advantages: Light feel-good period rom-com. Fantastic cast. Disadvantages: Very few – but the lack of DVD special features is disappointing.
Emma (the 1996 film of Jane Austen’s novel of the same name) is a wonderfully witty adaptation of this story of 19th century matchmaking, bringing out the humour of the original novel in a similar way to Emma Thompson’s Sense and Sensibility. It features fantastic supporting performances from some of Britain’s finest actors and an excellent leading performance from Gwyneth Paltrow (who I must admit I don’t generally enjoy) demonstrating the brilliant ... ...little over the ages!
Emma Woodhouse (Paltrow) is a wealthy young woman who lives in Highbury (somewhat more villagey than it is these days!) with her father. The film begins with the marriage of Emma’s governess to a wealthy neighbour, Mr Weston, a match for which Emma happily takes most of the credit. Bored at the loss of her governess Emma decides to take on a new “project” in the shape of Harriet Smith (Toni Collette with a fantastic naïve and ...

This is a great adaptation of the Jane Austen novel about a well bred girl who plays matchmaker for all her friends. However she never seems to be very good at matching them and when one of her friends takes a shine to her friend Mr Knightly she soon realises that she has been in love with him all along. There is good comedy moments in the film and the romantic aspects are not over the top.The screenplay doesn't sway from the book and makes this an ...

Emma Woodhouse enjoys matchmaking for her friends. Unfortunately, in her attempts to forge what she sees as suitable couplings for her friends, Emma totally disregards their true feelings as well as her own. This leads to a variety of misunderstandings, the greatest of which centres around Harriet Smith whom Emma has befriended and whom she wishes to see well married. When Harriet finally does reveal her true love to Emma, Emma is suddenly forced ...

There are few things I hate more than wasting a couple of hours of my life watching a crap movie. Fortunately, I came out from 'Emma' thinking the exact opposite. Witty dialogue, chilvarous romance and heaving cleavage in lacy dresses. Certainly not everybody's cup of tea but if like me, you spend your entire cinematic life trying to avoid scenes of grizzly violence, than this is one movie you can keep your eyes open the whole way through. Whether ...

...The basic story...
Alex Sheldon (Luke Wilson) has a massive gambling problem that has left him with a debt to the maffia of $100,000. His only possible way out is to write a book within 30 days and sell it to his publisher for $125,000. This however is greatly afflicted by two things, firstly the maffia tossed his laptop into the fire and secondly, he has writters block.
It seems to Alex that the only solution to this new problem is to hire a stenographer under the guise of a law firm. This results in the second half of the film...Emma Dinsmore (Kate hudson) who is furious to find Alex is not a law firm. But after learning of his situation and reading the end of his last novel she agrees to help him.
Alex then begins to reel off his novel to her which parts of are also acted out for us to see. As the real life story...

Advantages: Action Packed, Funny, Exciting and Tense Disadvantages: Werewolf's weren't 100%, but nothing really.
...Ryan
Darren Morrfit (Making Waves: TV) – as Witherspoon
And Emma Cleasby – as Megan
The DVD is impressive, which comes with lots of extra features including commentaries and documentaries.
My Evaluation:
Definitely a favourite, like I have mentioned the best werewolf film I have ever seen.
The action pieces are fantastic, music well chosen, and the camera angles are filmed brilliantly.
Although not very experienced I thought the cast were also quite well chosen.
The film is addictive and can be watched over and over again, I think mainly due to frequent tense, exciting and fun action set pieces. Even funny at times.
The film I think is a must have for all serious Horror film collectors and anyone that likes action.
A masterpiece!!
I hope you found my review helpful....

...of New York city. If you have seen this film before, the special features on the DVD will provide additional entertainment and if you didn't see it at the cinema, then this is a must see for you. The film lasts for 101 minutes and so is a decent 1 hour 40 to watch. The film is also rated PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi action and violence.

Review: Sue Birtwistle and adaptor Andew Davies are proving that the quality still shines through even when you convert the work into a medium which was not invented until 120 years after Austen's death. (Financial Times, )
My only real objection to Emma is that it was over too quickly. (Mail On Sunday, )
