Cannibal or LastCannibal World as its known here (it's known by several titles) is a little more out of the ordinary. Ok I appreciate that in my synopsis of the story it may sound similar to other similar tales but believe me this is far from the case. Firstly the initial structure as the film begins is well laid out presenting the viewer with exact facts. So it's lured you to an area that could potentially be non fictional. no publicity. Very few were lucky to have beenviewed on the big screen. I first encountered Ruggero Deodata's 'LastCannibal World' on VHS, under the title 'Cannibal'. I had heard about this title and others like it through a fanzine. This was during the early 80s, and widescreen was only being hinted at. Knowing what widescreen format was all about, I watched this flick feeling cheated. I knew imagery was being cropped. What was being shown was murky and the sound was below par. I also knew that sensorship was messing with my viewing experienceBig Time. Never the less, I was transported to a time and place only an Italian could conjure up.

Advantages: Deceptive title of a quality movie Disadvantages: A little silly in places
Don't be put off by the title, and don't expect to see one of those people going up the Amazon and meeting cannibal type movies. Cannibal Man is an intelligent and addictive Spanish movie surrounding a man and his terrible secret, furthermore it's about relationships and struggling with sexuality in a time in Spain's history where its population could not have been as free as it might like. Except for one rather minor level the movie has little to do with cannibalism, and the "man" in question certainly is not a cannibal in the sense that we might understand the title to convey. But something on a deeper level is that until the 1980's Spanish movies failed to satisfy either US or UK audiences, made in 1983 in my opinion this was the best Spanish made up to the period that Spanish movies became more fashionable, and even now is one ...
