Advantages: Elvis singing, great music and honest story Disadvantages: Elvis's acting is slightly wooden
...of acting experience shows, but he makes up for it with his singing, where his talent really shines. Although this was basically a vehicle for Presley, the real star of the film was Lizbeth Scott as Glenda Markle the bands agent. She portrays the manipulative agent brilliantly but also shows her weaker side when Rivers realizes that she has been manipulating him. Fortunately the majority of the acting scenes in the film involve her, other wise this could have been a very painful movie. There are some reasonable performances from the rest of the cast, which includes Dolores Hart and Wendell Corey.
Hal Kanter directs the film and he has done a very good job of capitalizing on the young Elvis's singing rather than his acting ability. The thing you have to remember is that this film is nearly 50 years old and filmmaking was totally different back...

Advantages: Great story and acting Disadvantages: Perhaps too farfetched for some to grasp
...Bruce Campbell ---- ElvisPresley/Sebastian Haff
Ossie Davis ---- John F. "Jack" Kennedy
Ella Joyce ---- The Nurse
Heidi Marnhout ---- Callie
Bob Ivy ---- Bubba Ho-tep
Bubba Ho-Tep cannot be defined in a single genre, because it is so diverse. Directed by Don Coscarelli, mainly a horror director, Bubba Ho-Tep became a cult classic. It did not make the mainstream cinemas in the UK but is now available to buy on special edition DVD.
The plot of this film is varied and certainly very peculiar. At heart a horror comedy, with some memorable funny scenes such as that of Haff trying to prove that he really is the King and his elaborate story of how he got into his position and the dark humour of the paramedics wheeling out the dead bodies. However, this film does more than provide a few cheap laughs. There are some scenes that prove...

Advantages: Incredible, passionate performances,a revelation Disadvantages: too many out-takes, fluffs etc
...If you haven't seen any of the footage in these discs before they will be a revelation!
What do you think of when you think Elvis? Do you think young Elvis when he first became famous, recorded records like Heartbreak Hotel, Blue Suede Shoes and Hound Dog and appeared on american tv shows such as the Ed Sullivan Show? Maybe you think of the rather wooden actor Elvis who starred in countless, often very mediocre movies? Or maybe you think of the older, increasingly overweight Elvis performing in Vegas wearing rhinestone studded white jumpsuits?
To my mind none of these come close to the Elvis you see in these discs. Here is Elvis no longer a boy but a man: healthy, happy, handsome, and with amazing vocal power. In these discs he gives renditions of all his best known classics, but he performs them with such passion, energy, sex...
