DVD Description
Elvis is known for being the King of Rock 'n Roll, but there was, in fact, a spiritual side to him. Some of his later pop hits were definitely tinged with a gospel feel, but on this amazing release, Elvis performs over thirty pure gospel songs. Along with beautifully moving performances, HE TOUCHED ME also provides insight into the King's life and personality. In interviews with friends, Elvis becomes a more fully formed man, emerging from the two-dimensional caricature that the general public seems to have.
Advantages: Great story and acting Disadvantages: Perhaps too farfetched for some to grasp
...Bruce Campbell ---- ElvisPresley/Sebastian Haff
Ossie Davis ---- John F. "Jack" Kennedy
Ella Joyce ---- The Nurse
Heidi Marnhout ---- Callie
Bob Ivy ---- Bubba Ho-tep
Bubba Ho-Tep cannot be defined in a single genre, because it is so diverse. Directed by Don Coscarelli, mainly a horror director, Bubba Ho-Tep became a cult classic. It did not make the mainstream cinemas in the UK but is now available to buy on special edition DVD.
The plot of this film is varied and certainly very peculiar. At heart a horror comedy, with some memorable funny scenes such as that of Haff trying to prove that he really is the King and his elaborate story of how he got into his position and the dark humour of the paramedics wheeling out the dead bodies. However, this film does more than provide a few cheap laughs. There are some scenes that prove...

Advantages: Elvis singing, great music and honest story Disadvantages: Elvis's acting is slightly wooden
..., this is a sheer pleasure. We get to watch a young Elvis strut his stuff and woo us with his wonderful songs. The actual story loosely relates to Elvis's own rise as undoubtedly the most famous singer in history. It is also a joy to watch a good old-fashioned film, which doesn't rely on action, violence, special effects, swearing or any other modern traits of filmmakers to keep you entertained. The film also reflects on the initial disapproval of the older generation when Rock n Roll started to make it big. Although there is a love story theme, it really is not the driving force of the plot and we are left to enjoy the musical ride.
The main character in the film is Deke Rivers played by ElvisPresley (Love Me Tender), a delivery driver boy who is manipulated into becoming a famous Rock n Roll Star. This was only Elvis's second movie and his lack...

Advantages: Incredible, passionate performances,a revelation Disadvantages: too many out-takes, fluffs etc
...appeal and charisma that if you have only ever heard the original recordings before you will be stunned.
These must rank as some of the most charismatic, inspiring performances made by any performer in any genre of music or entertainment. Before I came across these performances I had always tended to discount Elvis as being a bit corny: seeing them instantly changed my mind. Before I get carried away however let me tell you in more detail what you get.
Setting the scene
********************
Elvis had a meteoric rise to fame in the 1950s. He released many of his most famous records and appeared on american T.V. and in front of countless live audiences.
During the 1960s however Elvis concentrated on his film career, to the detriment, in the opinion of many, of his music and performing.
After a number of years Elvis became bored...
