by those that knew him. This groundbreaking series consists of seven programmes containing rarely seen home movies, film clips, live performance footage and exclusive interviews.THE HOLLYWOOD YEARS 1962 - 1969 profiles the period in his career which saw him make one hit film after another. Having reached super stardom, Elvis was drafted into the US Army in 1957, THE ARMY YEARS explores this least documented period of his life. ELVIS AND PRISCILLA uncovers their fascinating relationship and THE INTIMATE LOVES OF ELVIS is a comprehensive look at his private life. A MAN AND HIS MUSIC chronicles his monumental career from the moment he first picked up a guitar to the last time he walked off stage and THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED explores his final days. This comprehensive account of the most celebrated entertainer of the 20th century is an essential collection piece for all Elvis fans.
The Ultimate Collectionis a comprehensive five-hour collection of the US television series of the same name. The series divides Elvis' career into six distinct but not watertight eras ("The Memphis Years", "The Television Years", "The Hollywood Years", "The Memphis Mafia", "The Comeback Special" and "The Vegas Years"). There's a great deal of overlap between the episodes, with many of the key events being re-explored in subsequent parts (i.e., Presley's conscription into the army, and his move into Hollywood movies). As with all Elvis documentaries the usual band of biographers and "friends" are interviewed, and standard television news and movie footage is used. "The Memphis Mafia" part is the most critical section of the collection, highlighting the destructive power of Presley's inner circle. However, the overall uncritical style of the series will undoubtedly appeal to Elvis enthusiasts; due to its sheer length and repetitiveness it is not recommended for those just wanting a concise audio-visual account of this modern-day icon.On the DVD:Elvis: The Ultimate Collectioncomes on two discs with a clear, sharp picture and a Dolby Digital 2.0 soundtrack. The first disc includes a short photo gallery of Elvis, with additional DVD-Rom features on Disc 2. These include PDF documents of a poorly written eight-page biography of the star, and a confusing ten-page discography, along with an Ultimate Collection screensaver. --John Galilee

DVD Description
This comprehensive documentary examines the life of Elvis Presley during every stage of his exceptional career, from his early days in Memphis to his status as King of Rock 'n' Roll to his untimely death in 1977. The 16 one-hour segments utilize personal interviews from over 200 participants who knew the King intimately--his friends, employees, girlfriends, costars, musicians, and fans--as well as restored film clips, rare home movies, photos from private collections, and more. For the ultimate authenticity, Joe Esposito, Elvis' friend and spiritual adviser, served as the program's Executive Consultant. Episodes include: "The Hollywood Years Part 2: 1962-1969," "The Army Years," "The Comeback," "The Vegas Years," "Elvis and Priscilla," "The Intimate Loves of Elvis," "A Man and His Music," and "The Day the Music Died: Elvis is Gone."

Advantages: Very close - in Graceland, clean and functional, a bit of Elvis feel, FREE bus to Memphis Disadvantages: Not Elvis enough, VERY expensive souvenire shop, ordinary rooms
...The Heart Break Hotel is on ElvisPresley Avenue and is part of the Graceland Enterprise in Memphis, Tennessee, USA.
We chose to buy a package price stay at the Heart break Hotel and entrance to the Graceland Park/museum.
THE PACKAGE:
This is the package we booked on the website:
? One night deluxe accommodations for two people at ElvisPresley?s Heartbreak Hotel with free continental breakfast
? Two reservations for the Graceland Platinum Tour, which includes an audio-guided tour of Graceland Mansion and grounds, and a self-guided tour of Elvis's two custom airplanes, Elvis's Automobile Museum, Private Presley and the Sincerely Elvis Museum.
We paid about $160 per couple and shared a 2 double bedded room in the hotel so I think it was actually quite good value. I looked at other hotels in the area and they might have been a bit...

Advantages: Pure Elvis (the first live global satellite broadcast in history !) Disadvantages: None what so ever !
...When Elvis finished his 'movie career' he decided that he needed to perform in concert again. He felt that he had lost touch with his fans and needed to get back to what was important, making music. This came in the form of the 1968 comeback special which was a huge success. He performed to a small informal audience with his original band members looking oh so sexy in black leather sang his classics and talked about his life and chatted with his band members and cracked jokes. Elvis was back.
He then became a headliner again in Las Vegas and was determined to leave the movies behind him and perform to live audiences again. He was filmed in 1970 rehearsing and preparing for stage performances the footage was made into a documentary movie called 'That's the way it is' and people began to realise just what they had been missing when...
