Elton John is renowned as one of the greatest popstars in music history, and he's still going strong to this day. His name can be placed alongside music gods like Elvis, Freddie Mercury and Abba. This 2-disc DVD features the 3 and a half hour concert celebrating his 60th birthday in its glorious entirety. Filmed at New York's famous Madison Square Garden (which was also his 60th performance at this particular venue), he plays with his band and an orchestrated choir to an audience of over 10 thousand avid fans, amongst which are some of the cream of celebrities (including Pierce Brosnan, Billy Connolly, and Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne). When I saw that this legendary concert was being released on general sale on DVD, as a fan of Sir Elton's music, I bought it without hesitation, and was suitably impressed.
The main concert features no less than 33 of Sir Elton's most recognisable and popular songs, taken from all across his 40 year career, way back to the likes of 'Your Song' from 1969 (which he concludes the concert with), and 'The Bridge' from as recent as 2006. Other classics include 'Crocodile Rock', 'I'm Still Standing', 'Rocketman' (which has a stunning riff of about 7 minutes after the main song has ended), and 'Saturday Night's Alright' (my personal favourite). Though he doesn't quite perform to the same electric standard as in his heyday (what with the kicking of the piano stool and the lengthy solos), this performance still has the vibrancy and sensational atmosphere that have become synonymous with the name of Elton John. For the avid fan, there's even a few of his less known (but by no means less popular) tracks, such as 'Madman Across The Water', 'Better Off Dead' and 'Where To Now St.Peter?', which I would strongly recommend giving a listen to (or watch as the case may be).
Besides this mammoth concert, there's also 23 bonus tracks of live and rare performances (including an easter egg track which I shall not divulge the location of, but it's a truly amazing performance of 'Saturday Night's Alright' from the 80's). Amongst these are songs that don't appear in the actual concert, like 'Border Song', 'Goodbye Yellow Brick Road', and 'Tinderbox'. I don't think there's a single one of these songs I would consider less than good. Overall there's a total of 56 songs (some of which are repeated) across the 2 discs the package contains, and at around £20 (which seems like quite a steep price), the quality of the performances roundly deserves it. Needless to say that this is an absolute must for any Elton John fanatic.

Advantages: Good value for money, great show, worthwhile extras Disadvantages: Can't find any!
No matter if you're an EltonJohn fan or not, this boxed set is fantastic viewing for all age groups. The TV version was shown earlier in the year to celebrate Elton's 60th birthday but was a mix of music & boring celebrity talk in between. This DVD focuses purely on the music & features the complete show live at MadisonSquareGarden in New York with a huge crowd including many famous names in the crowd such as Bill Clinton.
The concert not only celebrates Elton's 60th birthday but also his record breaking 60th appearance at this stadium. That in its self is breath taking, how many non-American artists could full this stadium 60 times over in the past 30+ years?
The boxed set comes with two DVDs & a CD (more about that later), it features 33 songs sung on stage with the band & backing vocals. Songs such as:
