This film stars Johnny Depp as Edward, A biological human created by a an inventor, (Vincent Price). The inventor created him and throughout making him, taught him lessons of right and wrong, through reading him poems. Sadly before the inventor is given chance to make Edward real hands, he passes away, leaving Edward with metal blades for hands, hence the name Edward Scissorhands, and he has to live the rest of his life in the large mansion at the top of hill overlooking a small american suburbia.

One day the Avon Lady (Dianne Wiest) is having a hard time selling products to her neighbours, who all seem to also be Avon ladies. Just has she's about to call it a day, she spots the Mansion and sets off to try selling products to its inhabitants. So she makes her way up and knocks on the door, but there is no answer. She lets herself in through the front door and heads upstairs looking for the owner. This is where she first sees Edwards, and the scars on his face from where he must have cut himself. She invites him back to her home, so she can use her products to cover his scars. Whilst there all of the neighbours are trying to find out who the mysterious man his that she has just taken home.

Later she decided to let him stay with her at his home, until her Daughter Kim (Winona Ryder) returns home from a weekend away. She comes home one night to find a man with blades attached to his hands and instantly begins screaming, which frightens Edward. After everything has calmed down, and a little later into the film, Edward begins to have feelings for her, which he hasn't experienced before, so doesn't know what it is.

Once introduced to the neighbourhood Edward gets settled down in Suburbia life, and gets a job cutting dogs' hair, which then leads to him cutting the womens hair and later pruning bushes into dinosaurs and other pieces of art. And the whole of the town starts abusing his genorosity and kindness by making him do all of their chores. And then his trust is betrayed by Kim and her boyfriend, when he unlocks a door for them with his 'hands'. And her boyfriend sees it has a oppurtunity for him to make Edward break into his fathers vault, to steal some money. He agrees to do it because he thinks he is helping Kim out. But the safe closes and the alarms go off and he can't escape. He is then arrested and the townspeople begin making cruel rumours to make him leave town.

I will not say what happens from there because I do not want to give away too much for the people who haven't yet seen it. But it has a very good ending, and a very sad one at the same time.
Conclusion.

I think johnny Depp is amazing in this film. He plays Edward brilliantly. With a performance like this you can see why he is Tim Burtons first choice of actor in each movie he makes. And this shows because they work so well together. Dianne West is also very good in this film, playing the Avon lady who no matter what the others think always tries to help him. As is her on-screen daughter Winona Ryder, who goes from being repulsed by Edward to caring about him due to him doing anything to protect her.

The directing in this film, and the screenplay are excellent. The way that it is dark moody and gothic, while at the same time having the 'cheesey' suburbia way of life, where all men work at the same time, while all the women stay at home and make dinner and gossip, is very well shown. It gives mixed emotions because it shows the mansion from the outside as a dark place, but then once you get inside the compound, you can see Edward passion for everything in life, beautifully shown in his gardening and statues.

This DVD also contains extras on the same disk, these include:

Theatrical Trailers: These are basically the trailers shown in movie theatres before the films release.

Tv Spots: There are showing TV Spots that were filmed to advertise the movie

Director Commentary - A commentary by Tim Burton, explaining the ways the film was made and talking about working with Johnny Depp.

Musical Score Featurette - This shows how the musician made the music for the movie.

Photo Galleries and Concept Art: This includes photos taken from the movie set, And the Concept are gives you an insight into the surreal creative mind of Tim Burton.

Overall I think this is a excellent movie, Well deserving a 4 out of 5. The 1 point it doesn't get is that it does seem a little old now, which isn't a major issue to the people who are already fans, but may dissapoint some of the people who have yet to witness the creative magic of this film. I bought this from Play.com for a mere £2.99. Which is a bargain for a classic cult film like this.
