Advantages: Great acting and excellent direction Disadvantages: None
Ed Wood is a sentimental 'biopic' to one of the strangest characters in the movie business Edward D Wood Jr. This is a comedy drama directed by Tim Burton that chronicles the life of the filmmaker highlighting his most famous (infamous films) and his relationship with 1930's horror film star Bela Lugosi.
THE STORY
On the face of it the script to this movie is unbelievable. A transvestite film director gathers together a bizarre group of misfits ... ...the true life exploits of Ed Wood Jr. the cult director of probably some of the worst movies ever made. In recent years new fans that have realised that the films are so bad they are paradoxically extremely watchable have rediscovered his films. Amongst his worst you can include 'Plan 9 From Outer Space', 'Glen or Glenda?' and 'Bride of the Monster'. ...movie about the friendship between Ed and his most famous star, Bela Lugosi. When Ed meets the original screen Dracula early in the film, Lugosi is trying out coffins, a drug addict who is resigned to dying soon. Wood, to whom Lugosi is a hero, fuels him to attempt a comeback, giving Ed a star he thinks is bankable enough to propel him into the major league. Of course, as most people reading this will know, essentially Wood was a failure. He never ... ...the end of the film, Ed meets another hero of his, Orson Welles. Stupefied by the presence of his idol, Ed nevertheless goes across to introduce himself, telling Welles that like him, he directs, and acts – does everything. Does Welles believe him? The viewer is left unsure as to whether he takes the younger man seriously, or is just humouring him. But the legendary filmmaker appears, at least, to agree, and talks to Ed as an equal, and for ...

Advantages: A wonderful story about dreams and friendship Disadvantages: none
...All the movie, well really Ed Wood, gives you a big lesson of optimism that don't give up when things are bad or you think all the World is against you. Ed says us we have to fight and do it by our dreams. And I agree with him. The first time I watched this movie, I was sad and I was having a bad time, where all seemed ungly and horribe. Watch this movie helped me a lot. I understod, nothing is insurmountable, only need have a few of optimism and ... ...The friendship between Bela and Ed Wood is, also, a nice and special story. A relation that shows us what is the true friendship, that what nothing can broken.
It is a relation so emotional.

This is Tim Burton's tribute to an old horror film director, who may not have been the best filmmaker of all time, but he may have been the most passionate. It is filmed in black and white, giving it a classic feel, similar to Schindler's List. Once again, Burton gets an amazing ensemble cast including, for the second time after Edward Scissorhands, Johnny Depp, Sarah Jessica Parker, who was also in Mars Attacks, Bill Murray, and Martin Landau, who ...

Advantages: Entertaining, funny, well-acted, good characters Disadvantages: Charming story, but not particularly gripping
...of “Plan 9 From Outer Space”. Sadly, Ed’s never-realised ambitions to make the big time led him into a life of alcoholism, and despite Kathy standing by him for over 20 years, he died relatively young in 1978 at the age of 54. It was only a few years later that he was named as the worst film-maker of all time, and his best known picture attained cult status – so he never got to know about the new fan base he earned through this dubious honour, although I am sure he would be proud – as would Bela Lugosi to learn that to this day he still outsells Boris Karloff in the merchandise stakes!
EdWood is currently available on DVD from Amazon at £15.19. It’s possibly not a film to buy unless you are a particularly big Tim Burton fan, but it is definitely worth a viewing, so perhaps one to hire. If nothing else, it’s worth watching to hear...

Advantages: The IMAGE DVD is in good shape and includes the excellent documentary. Disadvantages: This film is perfect in every way...(cough, cough).
...-core porno shorts or loops for Swedish Erotica and others. Towards the end of his life, his ex-wife tried to help Ed who was in ill health and still a terrible alcoholic. He was barely aware there was a cult following for his films when he died in the mid-70's. It was shortly after his death that the Medved brothers wrote The Worst Films of All Times and The Golden Turkey Awards which put EdWood back on the map as a one-of-a-kind Hollywood film-maker.
Several DVD versions of the film exist. The best one is put out by IMAGE.
DVD STUFF:
The film has not been restored and is presented in the standard format. The print used in pretty good shape and the various grain, scratches and various film stocks used are all noticeable but add to the overall flavor of watching the film.
The audio is in mono but in very...
