Advantages: Kilmer, a wonderful story Disadvantages: None
...Oliver Stone has established a well deserved reputation for making films which expose the sleazy underbelly of history and debunk the myths that surround the received wisdom. He's also a right pain in the a*** for the US establishment and has done such stuff as JFK and Malcolm X.
The Doors was one of his earlier films and paints a striking picture of rock music in the late Sixties. It focuses on The Doors and their brilliant, but controversial lead singer, Jim Morrison, played by Val Kilmer, whose face is eerily reminiscent of the Lizard King at his most beautiful. The subject matter was pretty much made for Stone's romantic, outlaw take on 60's Americana and he certainly does it full justice.
The Doors were a massive rock and roll band for a while, making such wonderful hit records as Break On Through, Light My Fire, Riders...

Advantages: Gina Gershon, Rock and Roll Disadvantages: The drummer (who is she anyway!)
...This is one of the most fabulous films ever made.
Based on the life of Cheri Lovedog, a failed musician and now a fantastic tattooist, its all about the rock and roll baby!
Gina Gershon rocks in this film and actually performs the songs herself, great support is from her other band members, the always wonderful Lori Petty and the beautiful Lori Petty, theres another girl too, but is not even memorable
It's all about succeeding in the harsh world of Rock and Roll without selling out, and stories of each of the characters make you care what happens in the end, thought it would be an average "they succeed in the end, so whats the point in watching" kind of a flick but it totally blew me away.
The soundtrack is also worth a look at, if you enjoy the film, which I'm sure you will
This fillm is loved by Lesbians and straight people alike...

Advantages: Soundtrack, a bit of history retold Disadvantages: Bit mushy in places
...?~
The film tells the story of when The Beatles first got together and their tour of Hamburg, Germany. At this time the band had five members: John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, Pete Best and Stuart Sutcliffe. John and Stuart have met at college and are very close best friends. When John starts up his band he asks Stuart to play bass although Stuart has no previous experience of playing. Stuart is more of an artist, but being 19 years of age jumps on the opportunity to live a rock & roll life on tour. The majority of the film is set in Hamburg and there are plenty of scenes of the band playing at a seedy back street club in between strippers and exotic dancers. The band are shown performing cover tracks of songs like 'Mr Postman','Rock & Roll Music' and other rock & rollclassics by the likes of Chuck Berry. Everything is running along...
