Advantages: A nice entry level movie for those interested in cannibals Disadvantages: Badly edited
...made from other films. When Eaten Alive or Mangiati Vivi as its known in Italy was released the world could not get enough of cannibal movies. However the money was not there to progress this lust the public had for this type of film. In probably what is one of the most original cost saving methods (that many companies would be proud of in this day and age) director Umberto Lenzi edited scenes from two movies Cannibal AKA Jungle Holocaust, Lost Cannibal ... ...disjointed.
On the whole Eaten Alive is possibly my least favourite Italian horror tale, its badly crafted ridiculously contorted out of legibility and frankly does not even habve the basis of a good story. Great vast chunks are left unexplained the main one being why is Jonas sending cult members off to New York to carry out assassinations this is never explained in the movies cut or uncut form. Of the movies plus points it gives Italian legend ...

Advantages: Good acting, great story Disadvantages: Some violence
...to the original author, this to me seems to be a good adaptation. It conveys well the dangers of being arrogant about what we do and don't know about nature. It's a bit like "King Kong" and "Jurassic Park" in that way. I won't give away the ending but Challenger comes home a different person.
Be warned, there are some quite nasty scenes. In one scene, someone gets eatenalive by some highly evolved apes.
This drama was originally shown in two parts but the BBC video is not a boxed set. The DVD however, contains a 30 minute documentary, apparently, in addition to the actual programme.
"The Lost World" is certificate 12 and costs around £15 but Amazon are selling second hand copies. If you didn't see this on TV, either borrow a copy or demand the BBC repeat it. It's great!
Incidentally, the drama was actually filmed in New Zealand....

...Baywatch and the West Wing to oral horror The Dentist. I found no redeeming qualities in any of the acting in this film.
NOT FOR CHILDREN
Raptor is an 18 certificate. The film contains violence, blood & guts and people being eatenalive by dinosaurs. There's also the most ludicrous sex scene in the back of a pick-up I've ever seen. In fact, the sex is scarier than the dinosaurs!
THE DVD
Raptor is available on both Region 1 and Region 0 DVDs.
AVAILABILITY
You can buy this from Amazon for £15.99 new or from £2.45 used. It's not worth £15.99 of anyone's money; even £2.45 is pushing it.
OVERALL
This film's rubbish. It doesn't even come under the "so bad, it's good" banner. The plot is a rip off. Most of the special effects are stock footage from Roger Corman's Carnosaur films of the mid-nineties. The acting is poor...

DVD Description
Umberto Lenzi (CANNIBAL FEROX) directed this atrocious cannibal/religious cult exploitation feature that has become a cult favorite for its awful dialogue, countless scenes of unintentional comedy, copious gore, and a wealth of footage lifted from other cannibal films. Filmed not long after the Jonestown tragedy in Guyana, director Lenzi tries his hand at topicality by having the film revolve around an insane religious leader named Jonas who has taken a small cult of people from America and moved them into a camp in New Guinea that is located right in the middle of cannibal country. When a woman named Diana sends her sister Sheila mysterious footage of an apparently cannibalistic ritual taking place at the camp, Sheila becomes determined to rescue her. Arriving in New Guinea, Sheila hires an ex-G.I. to help her put together an expedition to the camp with the intention of forcibly removing Diana.
