Want an original and thoroughly entertaining way to kill two hours? Then why not get your paws on a copy of East Is East? I was alittle apprehensive about the film when I watched the trailer (a bonus feature on the DVD), but don't let it put you off- it features few of the highlights of this appealing movie. Packed full of talented Asian Brit actors, delivering top notch performances, East Is East establishes itself quickly as another hit for the excellent FilmFour company. Set in 'gritty' Manchester in the 1970s, the music and setting evoke pleasantly nostalgic vibes of that era. The characters are charasmatic and individual, each bringing variety and humour to the film. However, there are also serious points to be communicated- especially examining the culture clash between traditional Asian values & of those of Britain. Nevertheless, the movie never lets itself get bogged down, instead preferring to tackle the issues with a large dose of appropriately inserted humour. A treat!
