The first series of the ever popular ER created by Michael Crichton introduces us to the original six characters. These are Dr Mark Greene (Anthony Edwards), Dr Doug Ross (George Clooney), Dr Susan Lewis (Sherry Stringfield), Medical Student John Carter (Noah Wyle), Nurse Carol Hathaway (Julianna Margulies) and Dr Peter Benton (Eriq La Salle). In this series we see what it's like to work in an ER emergency room based at Chicago's County General Teaching Hospital and what the members of staff go through. We see the gruelling hours they work and horrific scene's they see day in and day out. This is a hard hitting drama series with some light and funny moments.

I loved this series when it first came out; I've just bought this on DVD and loved rewatching all the old episodes, they all look so young, of course there is only one original member of the cast on the show now.

We see Dr Mark Greene going through some traumatic events with his work and home life. Dr Doug Ross struggles with his relationship with Carol Hathaway, as they were once a couple, he also contends with hitting a patients farther and the consequences. Dr Susan Lewis struggles with a case and end's up getting sued for malpractice, and her sister coming in and out of her life. Medical Student John Carter struggles when he first starts in the ER, especially with Dr Peter Benton always on his case. Nurse Carol Hathaway contends with her attempted suicide and going on with her life afterwards, and Dr Doug Ross. Dr Peter Benton is very professional at what he does, but has a soft spot for his mother, even though his family doesn't think this.

The episode's that I liked the most were Blizzard, this episode has a fifteen car pile up and keeps you on the edge of the seat. The most heart wrenching episode was Love's Labour Lost, I won't tell you about this episode as I believe I can't give it the best effect. The funniest moment though is when Carter thinks it's Benton's birthday and surprises him, I could not stop laughing.
