Advantages: The best re-invention of a popular sci-fi series that there has ever been...... Disadvantages: None- this is as good as a new DOCTOR WHO show was ever going to get.....
...be fair, the movie pilot wasn't THAT good and so the idea never got recommissioned as more than a one-off.....
Which brings us to 2005..... Russell.T.Davies announced the return of The Doctor as you had never seen him before with Billie Piper (because she wants to, because she wants to?) as his assisstant and with Christopher Eccleston in the starring role. It could have gone either way- thankfully the new, re-imagined series was an overnight, and rightfully so, success!!!
This DVD encompasses the first three episodes, ROSE, THE END OF THE WORLD and THE UNQUIET DEAD and is worth re-watching if only to pick up on all the hints RTD drops throughout the series which all relate to the seasons climatic end, BAD WOLF. Much like in the T.V series LOST, the show is peppered with little clues that only the most avid of fans will have picked...

Advantages: Very funny Disadvantages: Not known outside the US
...Take a bit of Don Quixote, Trading Places, Risky Business and The Nutty Professor. Throw in Dan Ackroyd, Howard Hesseman and Fran Drescher. And you have Dr Detroit.
Dan plays a mild mannered college Professor who is chosen by Hesseman as his made-up business partner Dr Detroit. Hesseman owes money to Mom, a big-time hood in his local city and has no intention of paying. So he creates Dr Detroit, his business partner who will pay Mom and skips town leaving Dan to create Dr Detroit and look after the hookers and either pay off Mom or run her out of town.
A film that I think was most likely never released outside of the USA. Which is a shame as it has a good plot, good characters and good set pieces that drive the film well. Combine some excellent 80's music, throw in pimps and James Brown for good measure and you have one of Dan's best...

Advantages: Lightwieght fun with a great cast Disadvantages: A bit dated
...DoctorIn The House was the first in a series of movies starring the doctors of St Swithins Hospital in some form or other. This first foray follows the trials and tribulations of one Simon Sparrow (Dirk Bogarde) during his five years of medical training at the school/hospital.
Amongst the first people Sparrow meets is Grimsdyke (Kenneth More) a perennial student who has no inclination to ever qualify as doctor. Grimsdyke and his friends are much more interested in other things than their studies. Taffy has rugby on his mind while Benskin only has time for women, nurses in particular.
Sparrow is much more serious than they are but the high spirits the exhibit cant help but rub off on him. Because of this his learning at St Swithins is often interrupted by other preoccupations, something that gets him, and the others, in trouble...
