Of course the only film to see this weekend is Hannibal. And it seems I'm not the only one who thought this, for all showings at my local cinema were full this weekend. So, what to see instead? I'd played Dungeons and Dragons as a kid, and had seen the advert for the film on TV (whihc made it look rather cool), so booked to see this film instead.
The opening scene looked promising....what more can I say? This was like watching a bunch of amateurs try to muddle there way through, aided only with a script that left a lot to be desired. I can see what the director was trying to do, don't get me wrong. He wanted a film that could appeal to adults and children alike...that would amaze the audiance with stunning graphics and great action. And he did, to an extent. The graphics were amazing....spectacular in fact...a definate 10 out of 10. Unfortanately, everything else about the film wasn't....
Appart from the fact that the film hardly followed the board game at all, none of the lead actors seemed to be truely suited to their roles, and the action was over-done, as was the music. I've always thought that a great sound track to a film is either one you don't notice at all, or one you want to sing along to. This is neither..I most definately noticed it, and it made me want to scream.
On the plus side though, it didn't look like there was much opportunity left for a sequel....
