Hannibal sold out well what else is there to watch but Dungeons & Dragons. From my childhood I always remembered coming home from school flicking on the TV and watching the cartoon version. However the film is in most part completely different. It’s a typical fairy tale of a thief that has to go out of his way for the better good to save the pathetic and ugly Empress, whilst falling in love with a young inexperienced Mage followed by a useless sidekick called Snails. If you put this film in outer space it would be called Star Wars, but these similarities end at that. Jeremy Irons plays a power hungry Mage that’s mind is set on control the realm of Ismael but you can tell it is going to go all pear shaped for him as out to stop them a group of common people from the worst parts of society, guess who wins? Yeah its obvious, in fact the whole plot is obvious that most 12 year olds are too sophisticated for this film. Dungeons & Dragons has some comical aspects, some fantasy aspect and all the ingredients for a good film but it lacks essential transitional scene change and build up. Every time the good guy gets in to a new scene he seems better dressed and in the end looks rather like Hans Solo.

The acting is reasonable, nothing special as the audience is not there to be mentally gratified but to watch something that is light and to produce escapism, it will not going to give you nightmares before you sleep. Computer graphics play a big role in this film and are pretty smooth and sophisticated but not out of this world. The whole plot in the way the good guys get together is pretty much a joke and there are some adult comedy lines played by the Dwarf that most 12 years would not understand.

I found the music score very boring and sickening, it seemed the same tone in most scenes. In fact the ending seemed rather dull and could have been played better by extending the battle between the Dragons. If this was intended for an older age group it could have been much bloodier and stronger in character.

I remember that cartoon series! "Hey, a Dungeons and Dragons ride!" That weird short DungeonMaster - those were the days.... DOn't think I'll bother with this one, though.
