I remeber the cartoon from the 80's when it was on TV and recently bought the whole box set for my son who is obsessed with dragons. I use to love this cartoon as a child and re watching this box set with my son I still thing it is great as does he.
The cartoon is set in the realm of Dungeons and Dragons, a place where a group of children end up after taking a ride at a fair. Once in the realm they are faced with good and evil and a battle to get home. Each episode is about them trying to return home. The good in the realm is the Dungeon master who gives each of the children a magic weapon, and guides them through them realm with riddles. the weapons he gives them is Ranger gets a bow Cavalier - a shield Thief - an invisible cloak Magician - a magic hat Acrobat - a staff and barbarian a club. They are also joined by a baby unicorn called uni. The evil in the realm is Venger who is constantly trying to capture there weapons and prevent them from returning home. He rides a black flying horse, and the only being he is scared of is a three headed dragon. Through there quests to return home they meet others who live in the realm, such as the cloud bears and many more.
The action is thick and fast and the animation is good especially considering the age. It is a timeless story of good and evil, fun and enjoyable to watch. It could be a little scary for the younger children as Venger is a scary character,as are the dragons that appear in it. Well worth watching.
Advantages: every episode ever produced of this classic series collected in one boxed set Disadvantages: Few special features
...when it was first made, Dungeons and Dragons was nothing short of revolutionary, with kids having their own magical weapons and being on fantastical adventures of epic proportions, who in any decade wouldn't want that?. Suddenly kids were treated to something on TV which exemplified what they dreamed of. It may not have literally transported them to another world but it did fuel their imaginations and made Saturday TV a joy to watch. In terms of ... ...sturdy card box adorned with Dungeons and Dragons artwork, enclosing 4 volumes. The discs themselves have few special features, the usual audio and episode selections are there. However that shouldn't put anyone off as it's all quite well presented and the quality of the animation and sound, improved from the original, is more than enough to please fans and newcomers.
So there you have it, brief summary of one of the most memorable animated series ...
