Edward Scissorhans: the DVD cut

Advantages: Good plot, and some excellent visuals
Disadvantages: Some of the acting

aren't great plot contributions, but little niggles that spoiled an otherwise excellent film for me. For instance, what happened to the old inventor's body when he died. And how would Edward have continued to live at the mansion under the guise of being dead if there was a death on the grounds that would have been treated as a crime scene. Maybe its about my analytical mind, and perhaps if you suspend belief long enough - its utterly enjoyable without the pitfalls that I've listed. But I just couldn't get them out of my head whilst watching. All in all though, its a nice film with an engaging plot. The DVD I purchased had not a single extra. Not even a theatrical trailer or a cast bio. Disappointing. ...

Everton 3 Bayern Munich 1 - 1985 - DVD Review

Advantages: Re live a glorious European semi-final from the 80's
Disadvantages: It makes you sad we aren't this good anymore!

Then I came to the end - sadly

Advantages: A wonderfully observed window on everyday office life
Disadvantages: None that I can think of

This is Joshua Ferris's first book and was shortlisted for the National Book Awards and longlisted for the Guardian First Book Award 2007 so when I picked up this title I was immediately intrigued. Also, the cover (back and front), and for a couple of pages within, it is littered with praise from many newspapers/authors. Sometimes this can give a false impression - like when someone claims that it's the 'greatest thing ever written' and it turns out to be all hype - so when the Sunday Times declared it was 'the comedy debut of the year' I, as well as being intrigued, was also rather skeptical.
