Dumb And Dumber [1995]
Delivering exactly what its title promises, this celebration of stupidity was Jim Carrey's ... more
1994 follow-up toAce Ventura: Pet DetectiveandThe Mask. The film pairs the rubber-faced wacky man with Jeff Daniels as the not-so-dynamic duo of Lloyd and Harry, dunderheads who come into the possession of a briefcase containing ransom money that is intended for Mob-connected kidnappers. Lauren Holly co-stars as the woman who lost the briefcase, and with whom Carrey falls in love (both in real life and as his moronic on-screen character). As Lloyd and Harry make a mad dash to return the briefcase (never aware of its contents), the bumbling buddies attract Mobsters, cops, and trouble galore. This lowbrow laugh-a-thon scores some solid hits for hilarity, but with gags involving ill-fated parakeets, buxom bimbos, and an overdose of laxatives, be prepared to put your brain--and good taste--on hold.--Jeff Shannon

Review: ...Carrey turns his face and body into a special effect....I defy anyone not to erupt into giggles... (Entertainment Weekly, )
...Daniels's hangdog goofiness makes a perfect foil for Carrey's spasmodically edgy comic style....DUMB AND DUMBER knows much better than to try to make sense... (New York Times, )
Advantages: Can be funny Disadvantages: but not all the time
...Having seen this film, I feel it is a bit of a let-down. The first film, Dumb and Dumber, was a childish, hilarious masterpiece. Dumb and Dumberer just doesn't live up to expectations.
I went to see the film on the basis that the trailer looked funny as hell. It was a nice bit of editing. What I saw is exactly what I got and nothing more. The content of the film has the same amount of substance as the 1 minute trailer.
The subtitle of this prequel,'When Harry met Lloyd', does indicate the forming of a relationship. But the emotion in this film is nowhere to be seen. It is all based on the gags which are few and far between: I recall laughing about five times through its whole duration of it.
I don't want to spoil the film, but I will just spell out the plot in a bit more detail than a synopsis would:
Harry meets Lloyd...

Advantages: Sidesplitting gags, schoolboy humour Disadvantages: Not for the ladies
...which will leave even the most depressed of men in hysterics. And I say men as I have yet find a woman who likes this film. I'm sure there will be one or two but as of yet I haven't met them.
The Jist of the film is that Lloyd (Jim Carey) rescues a brief case from an attractive passanger of his limo. He decides to track this woman all the way from Rhode Island to Aspen, Colarado, to return her briefcase. Lloyd's best friend Harry ( Jeff Daniels ) decides it would be a good idea to tag along. What insues I will leave you to find out for yourself, all I can say is you'll have a barrel of laughs.
Dumb and Dumber - outragiously blatent comedy. Women seem imune to the comedic power of this film, but men every where will roll about. It is rare that a film that can make you laugh so hard you hurt. If you haven't seen it, SEE IT!...
