TheDukes of Hazzardsoundtrack will probably prove to be much like the film: Mixing Jessica ... more
Simpson and Willie Nelson together in a Southern
rock milieu will either seem genius or it'll have
you cowering under Grandma's homemade country
quilt. This musical journey to the land of
moonshine and short shorts kicks off with Simpson
(channeling Britney Spears), who purrs her way
through a countrified version of "These Boots Are
Made for Walkin."  From there, the disc settles
into straightforward Southern rockville by way of
Lynyrd Skynrd, Molly Hatchet, and other bands from
the 1970s and '80s, the era of theDukes of
Hazzardtelevision show. (Two notable exceptions
are "Burn It Off" by the band formerly known as
the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and "Soul City" by
Southern Culture on the Skids.)There's little
inventiveness and few surprises in this
compilation. Songs like "Black Betty," "Call Me
the Breeze," and "Pride and Joy" should be so well
known to fans that only the desire to have them in
one place--perhaps as a sonic backdrop to your
next stock-car race--would make this album worth
owning. Possibly the best track in the collection
is Willie Nelson's rendition of "Good Ol' Boys."
It reminds one of the Waylon Jennings original,
and should give seriousDukesfans a hankerin' for
the TV soundtrack, which is being re-released to
coincide with the film's debut.--Leah Weathersby

Dukes of Hazzard - Series 1 Dukes of Hazzard - Series 1
The Dukes of Hazzardwas part of America's redneck fetish in the mid-to-late 1970s, ... more
otherwise evident in popular songs, movies, and
television shows highlighting fast cars, truckers,
citizens' band radio, moonshine, irreverent hicks,
and clueless lawmen. Created by writer-producer Gy
Waldron and inspired by his own 1975 bootlegging
comedy,Moonrunners,Dukesmilked seven seasons of
material from the tale of a Deep South family of
reformed whiskey-makers and their running feud
with a greedy impresario and his chief lackey, a
buffoonish, venal sheriff.This three-disc set
includes all 13 initial episodes ofDukesfrom 1979,
a period fans fondly recall because some of the
programs were shot on location in Covington,
Georgia, rather than a Burbank backlot. Also
noteworthy is that a couple of key characters,
particularly Hazzard County's corrupt lawman,
Roscoe P. Coltrane (James Best), hadn't gelled yet
into permanent hayseed stereotypes and were
arguably more interesting at the beginning. At the
center of the action are Sheriff Coltrane's
nemeses, cousins Bo Duke (John Schneider) and Luke
Duke (Tom Wopat), a couple of wild boys buzzing
through the backwoods in the "General Lee," a
souped-up Dodge Charger. Bo and Luke are good at
heart but have to behave themselves while on
indefinite probation, complicating but not halting
their efforts to vex Roscoe and his patron,
diminutive bigwig Boss Hogg (Sorrell Booke). The
enmity runs both ways: Roscoe and Boss Hogg, with
the aid of witless Deputy Enos Strate (Sonny
Shroyer), dream up ways of eliminating the
Dukes--including their wise old Uncle Jesse
(Denver Pyle)--but their efforts always
backfire. While every episode is a variation on the
previous one, predictability is a virtue inDukes.
The series pilot, "One Armed Bandits," finds Luke
and Bo, with help from their sexy cousin, Daisy
(Catherine Bach), diverting slot machines
(smuggled into Hazzard County by Roscoe and Boss
Hogg) to sundry watering holes where they can
raise money for Bo's girlfriend's charity. In
"Money to Burn," Boss Hogg tries to frame Bo and
Luke for robbing an armored truck, while in
"Deputy Dukes," the unarmed guys are forced by
Roscoe to escort a deadly prisoner from one town
to another. The Dukes hit back in "Daisy's Song,"
investigating a scam that took Daisy for $50 and
implicates, of course, Boss Hogg and Roscoe.Yes,
it's a show about rubes, car stunts, and a legacy
of moonshine, but there's something comforting
about it, in a tongue-in-cheek way.--Tom Keogh,

Review of Dukes of Hazzard (2005) by afy9mab

Advantages: Some really good stunt driving
Disadvantages: Jessica Simpson's acting, no plot, Jessica Simpson's acting, Burt Reynolds' wig, Jessica Simpson's acting...

...of anti-racist attacks on the Dukes in one bizarre sequence that underlines an issue that doesn't exist in the rest of the film. There's no sense of urgency about the film and it retains sitcom pacing throughout, with a number of little episodes tied into one. Chandrasekhar doesn't seem to know what to do with his cast, so he lets them do as they please, fumbling a number of comic moments. However, he shoots action tolerably well, inter-cutting point-of-view ...
...create a sense of excitement. He also pre-empts the daredevil stunts, so the audience knows what's going to happen before the characters. The objectification of women is slightly worrying, though Daisy at least realises she's a sex object. It's a little overlong at the hour-and-three-quarters mark, but I guess if you cut it back any further, there wouldn't even be room for the sliver of plot it has. It's stupid and brash, but never has any ideas ... Read review

Di du doo doo do do do do do do do dooooo
Review of Dukes of Hazzard (2005) by Sarah_Louise

Advantages: Funny, easy to watch film, good stunts
Disadvantages: May not appeal to everyone!

...right from the start that Dukes of Hazzard never really appealed to me. (The film, that is....) To be perfectly honest, I'd never really even heard of it before, I certainly don't recall seeing any of the programmes which first started in the late 70's. They have of course been repeated but I still have yet to catch an episode. Seeing the trailers for this film did absolutely nowt for me either I must confess. Two guys, in a daft looking car with ...
...we did go and see Dukes of Hazzard though as it was well worth it for the laughs. The main gist of the tale in this film is that there is the annual Hazzard Road Rally is about to take place. Bo is the four time winner of it but this particular year he has to take on someone who is now a pro racer (Billy Prickett). Billy is also a four time winner of teh rally and has come back to Hazzard for the sole reason of taking part in the rally. In the ... Read review

Take a look at those short shorts and the DD
Review of Dukes of Hazzard (2005) by Ailran

Advantages: If you like cars you'll love this
Disadvantages: acting and story

...The main story of Dukes of Hazzard, revolving around cars, stunts, fast driving, very short shorts on Cousin Daisy Duke (Jessica Simpson), cars, crashes and car racing (notice the recurring theme of the film yet?), is that of the upcoming Hazzard road rally. Bo is the four time winner of it and this year he has to take on an ex Hazzard county boy, and now pro racer, Billy Prickett. Prickett is also a four-time winner of the rally and has come back ...
...would you expect from a Dukes of Hazzard film. No one who goes to see this will come out disappointed because you know exactly what you are going to get. Sure it has no redeeming qualities at all but again what would you expect? It is a guys' film out and out, there isn't even any good-looking guys that may just attract the attention of the women. Dukes does contain everything a teenage boy, or an adult that hasn't grown up yet, would love to see. ... Read review

How's It Lookin, Good Lookin?
Review of Dukes of Hazzard (2005) by Andy.mack

Advantages: A reasonable comedy, some funny moments, a few decent perfromances, Car Chases
Disadvantages: weak script, average story and generally not as good as it could have been

...all time but whether The Dukes Of Hazard would make a decent film always made me wary. So when I came across the recent update and movie adaptation I was really caught in two minds. There was part of me saying that there was no way this could be as good as the old series. Then there was the other part of me thinking that Seann William Scott and Johnny Knoxville are both pretty decent actors and it'd at least be funny. So I decided to bite the bullet ...
...off with The Dukes as working material. The cousins Duke, Bo (Seann William Scott) and Luke (Johnny Knoxville) run their grandfathers moonshine deliveries around Hazzard County. Along the way they love nothing more than causing trouble and in particular antagonize the local law enforcement. Of course that's lead to the local Major Boss Hogg (Burt Reynolds) and his local police department to try and hound the boys. Whilst flying round Hazzard in ... Read review

Its like Dumb and Dumber.... but dumber.
Review of Dukes of Hazzard (2005) by moxon123

Advantages: God awful script and performances.
Disadvantages: Daisy's dukes...

...sitting down to watch THE DUKES OF HAZZARD, the latest in a long line of remakes and reinventions of 70's born movies and TV shows that really couldn't have been anything else but a failure. Sure its directed by the guy behind the riotous SUPER TROOPERS and the somewhat less fun but still watch able CLUB DREAD, but the original show wasn't the most intelligent or inspired of creations and since the only thing Hollywood seems to be good at is dumbing ...
...THE DUKES OF HAZZARD is indeed the most gob smackingly stupid film you will ever see, the story, just like that of the show, revolves around nothing more than random events and car chases. Here, brothers Bo and Luke Duke ride their Dodge Charger, The General Lee, around and say stupid things to each other for 20 minutes until they happen to lose their farm to the evil commissioner Boss Hogg and in turn retaliate by stealing his safe. They then inspect ... Read review
