From the golden age of early-evening weekend tellyThe Dukes of Hazzardworks as a reminder ... more
of a simpler time. An era when having a sense of morals meant leaping into a souped-up orange racer with the doors welded shut and having endless car chases with the crooked law, and when problems were solved with a good-natured fistfight at your local watering hole. It also maintains the classic good/bad divide of character types--the baddies were bumbling fools and the good guys and gal were clean-cut and clean-thinking but not so sanitised that they lost their individuality or their cool.The original series ran from 1979-1985 and during that time cousins Luke, Bo and Daisy Duke (all under the watchful eye ofthe stern-but-decent Uncle Jesse) tussled with the dishonest duo of Boss Hogg and Sheriff Rosco P Coltrane. Each week, Hogg and Coltrane came up with an illegal moneymaking scheme and the Dukes did their best to scupper their plans, "battling the system like two modern-day Robin Hoods". Cue Boss Hogg blubbling like an overgrown baby, and the ever-popular Daisy Duke sending teenage boys into fits of confusion. The plots didn't vary hugely from episode to episode, butThe Dukes of Hazzard--just like the enduringA-Team--was not about thought provoking television. Rather it offered familiarity, friendship and a sense of knowing your place in the world--usually in front of the TV on a Saturday evening. --Ian Watson

imitate the performances which made the original series so enjoyable.
* The Story
I will be honest, the storyline to the film is pretty poor, with really only 2 elements running strongly through it. Firstly you have the forthcoming Hazzard county country road race which Bo plans to compete in and win for a fifth time, equalling the record of Billy Pickett, who happens to return to Hazzard to try and stop him from winning. Then you have what should be the main element of the film, and that is the dark deeds which Boss Hogg is putting into place, whilst evicting the local farmers, including the dukes, from their residences in unscrupulous manners. Of course the Dukes have to try and win their farm back whilst stopping Boss Hogg from his clandestine affairs. In reality these two story lines are only there to give the film some meaning ...
Advantages: Hilarious comedy, good viewing Disadvantages: only 3 episodes, expensive to buy whole set individually
Another installement to my DVD collection - the epic and classic comedy hero - Mr Bean. I love Rowan Atkinson, especially in Black Adder and also in the classic Mr Bean episodes. Despite my mood before hand, after watching Mr Bean I always feel much better, he always manages to intrigue my imagination with his biazarre mannerisms and abilty to turn the most straight forward of tasks into complete disaters!
Having not being able to buy the whollebox set I have had to purchase and review each DVD volume one by one.
This DVD contains 3 episodes, each with 3 or 4 sketches in them. All of whihc are brilliant and this DVD includes one of my favourites - the one where he goes to the swimming pool and clings to the diving board. The three episodes are entitled: Episode 1. 'The Curse Of Mr Bean', Episode 2. 'Mr Bean Goes To Town ...
Advantages: Some really good stunt driving Disadvantages: Jessica Simpson's acting, no plot, Jessica Simpson's acting, Burt Reynolds' wig, Jessica Simpson's acting...
Luke and Bo Duke are a pair of good old boys living on the wrong side of the law in the American deep south. They just want to have a few laughs, run some of Uncle Jesse's moonshine, bomb around the countryside in their bright orange Dodge Charger and maybe romance some ladies. But with Sheriff Roscoe P Coltrane on their backs and Boss Hogg out to put them in prison, the boys can't stay out of trouble, even with their hot pant-wearing cousin Daisy on their side.
Director Jay Chandresekhar is a member of America's Broken Lizard improvisation troupe, which really doesn't explain why all his films are so derivative. At least here he has an excuse, making a film based on a popular 1980s' television series. He remains true to the spirit of the original; putting it together as a series of very loosely interconnected car chases with a little ...
