The Dukes of Hazzard - The Dukes of Hazzard -
TheDukes of Hazzardsoundtrack will probably prove to be much like the film: Mixing Jessica ... more
Simpson and Willie Nelson together in a Southern
rock milieu will either seem genius or it'll have
you cowering under Grandma's homemade country
quilt. This musical journey to the land of
moonshine and short shorts kicks off with Simpson
(channeling Britney Spears), who purrs her way
through a countrified version of "These Boots Are
Made for Walkin."  From there, the disc settles
into straightforward Southern rockville by way of
Lynyrd Skynrd, Molly Hatchet, and other bands from
the 1970s and '80s, the era of theDukes of
Hazzardtelevision show. (Two notable exceptions
are "Burn It Off" by the band formerly known as
the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and "Soul City" by
Southern Culture on the Skids.)There's little
inventiveness and few surprises in this
compilation. Songs like "Black Betty," "Call Me
the Breeze," and "Pride and Joy" should be so well
known to fans that only the desire to have them in
one place--perhaps as a sonic backdrop to your
next stock-car race--would make this album worth
owning. Possibly the best track in the collection
is Willie Nelson's rendition of "Good Ol' Boys."
It reminds one of the Waylon Jennings original,
and should give seriousDukesfans a hankerin' for
the TV soundtrack, which is being re-released to
coincide with the film's debut.--Leah Weathersby

Dukes of Hazzard - Series 1 Dukes of Hazzard - Series 1
The Dukes of Hazzardwas part of America's redneck fetish in the mid-to-late 1970s, ... more
otherwise evident in popular songs, movies, and
television shows highlighting fast cars, truckers,
citizens' band radio, moonshine, irreverent hicks,
and clueless lawmen. Created by writer-producer Gy
Waldron and inspired by his own 1975 bootlegging
comedy,Moonrunners,Dukesmilked seven seasons of
material from the tale of a Deep South family of
reformed whiskey-makers and their running feud
with a greedy impresario and his chief lackey, a
buffoonish, venal sheriff.This three-disc set
includes all 13 initial episodes ofDukesfrom 1979,
a period fans fondly recall because some of the
programs were shot on location in Covington,
Georgia, rather than a Burbank backlot. Also
noteworthy is that a couple of key characters,
particularly Hazzard County's corrupt lawman,
Roscoe P. Coltrane (James Best), hadn't gelled yet
into permanent hayseed stereotypes and were
arguably more interesting at the beginning. At the
center of the action are Sheriff Coltrane's
nemeses, cousins Bo Duke (John Schneider) and Luke
Duke (Tom Wopat), a couple of wild boys buzzing
through the backwoods in the "General Lee," a
souped-up Dodge Charger. Bo and Luke are good at
heart but have to behave themselves while on
indefinite probation, complicating but not halting
their efforts to vex Roscoe and his patron,
diminutive bigwig Boss Hogg (Sorrell Booke). The
enmity runs both ways: Roscoe and Boss Hogg, with
the aid of witless Deputy Enos Strate (Sonny
Shroyer), dream up ways of eliminating the
Dukes--including their wise old Uncle Jesse
(Denver Pyle)--but their efforts always
backfire. While every episode is a variation on the
previous one, predictability is a virtue inDukes.
The series pilot, "One Armed Bandits," finds Luke
and Bo, with help from their sexy cousin, Daisy
(Catherine Bach), diverting slot machines
(smuggled into Hazzard County by Roscoe and Boss
Hogg) to sundry watering holes where they can
raise money for Bo's girlfriend's charity. In
"Money to Burn," Boss Hogg tries to frame Bo and
Luke for robbing an armored truck, while in
"Deputy Dukes," the unarmed guys are forced by
Roscoe to escort a deadly prisoner from one town
to another. The Dukes hit back in "Daisy's Song,"
investigating a scam that took Daisy for $50 and
implicates, of course, Boss Hogg and Roscoe.Yes,
it's a show about rubes, car stunts, and a legacy
of moonshine, but there's something comforting
about it, in a tongue-in-cheek way.--Tom Keogh,

DVD Description

It was inevitable that THE DUKES OF HAZZARD would leap onto the big screen, and now, thanks to Broken Lizard's Jay Chandrasekhar (SUPER TROOPERS, CLUB DREAD), it finally has. Slipping into the boots made famous by John Schneider and Tom Wopat, Seann William Scott and Johnny Knoxville play moonshine-selling cousins, Bo and Luke Duke. Along with their ridiculously gorgeous cousin Daisy (Jessica Simpson) and joke-telling Uncle Jessie (Willie Nelson), the Duke boys love to get the goat of Hazzard County's most crooked law enforcement officials, including Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane (M.C. Gainey) and county commissioner Boss Hogg (Burt Reynolds). But when they discover that Boss Hogg is using his leverage to run them off their farm in order to turn Hazzard County into a strip mine for coal, things get personal. With the help of their faithful friends, Bo and Luke set off on their riskiest adventure yet. Showing his reverence for the classic 1980s show, Chandrasekhar incorporates freeze-frames, humorous narration, and extended action sequences, resulting in a crowd-pleasing romp that promises to introduce a whole new generation of fans to the Duke boys. While Scott, Knoxville, and the scantily clad Simpson deliver the goods, it is The General Lee the pair's electrifying orange Charger that steals the show.

WARNING - Hazzard ahead
Review of Dukes Of Hazzard (Unseen Edition) by  christianfilmcritic

Advantages: Funny and loads of car chases
Disadvantages: Poor acting and weak plot

.... * Direction Directing "The Dukes of Hazzard" is Jay Chandrasekhar, who other than directing the middle of the road "Club Dread" has learned his craft with TV shows. To be honest he doesn't really do anything wrong with the film, and capitalizes on one of the key elements of the original show, and that is the car chases featuring the General Lee, which he does to maximum effect. I suppose anyone who takes on a remake of a classic TV series takes on the risks associated with it and stands more chance of making a box office flop than hit. In Chandrasekhar's case I think he has done an admirable job, but just lacked the experience to make this better. DVD - Bonus Features and quality **************************************** * Bonus Features First up is a feature called "Daisy Dukes: The Short Short Shorts" which is a short feature which... Hazzard To Your Health
Review of Dukes of Hazzard (2005) by  utero

Advantages: Some good stunts
Disadvantages: Boss Hogg ain't fat, lame story

...When the Hollywood ideas factory goes on strike then there's always TV…. Back in 2000 Charlie's Angels was revamped for the big screen and made a decent amount of money. It was by no means a good film but got by just by being a bit of fun. So what other small screen gems could be turned into cash cows? Well The A-Team has often been mentioned but so far it's not materialized. For what it's worth I'd gladly sit through an A-Team movie on the big screen if it were done well. The Dukes of Hazzard was never a good TV show. It was just the same old stuff every week; it just happened to pass the time and caught an audience. But does the material justify a movie? The 'Dukes' in question are cousins Bo and Luke Duke. They drive around the hick town of Hazzard in a 1969 Dodge Charger delivering moonshine for their uncle Jessie. Quite often... Read review
