Simpson and Willie Nelson together in a Southern rock milieu will either seem genius or it'll have you cowering under Grandma's homemade country quilt. This musical journey to the land of moonshine and short shorts kicks off with Simpson (channeling Britney Spears), who purrs her way through a countrified version of "These Boots Are Made for Walkin." From there, the disc settles into straightforward Southern rockville by way of Lynyrd Skynrd, Molly Hatchet, and other bands from the 1970s and '80s, the era of theDukes of Hazzardtelevision show. (Two notable exceptions are "Burn It Off" by the band formerly known as the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and "Soul City" by Southern Culture on the Skids.)There's little inventiveness and few surprises in this compilation. Songs like "Black Betty," "Call Me the Breeze," and "Pride and Joy" should be so well known to fans that only the desire to have them in one place--perhaps as a sonic backdrop to your next stock-car race--would make this album worth owning. Possibly the best track in the collection is Willie Nelson's rendition of "Good Ol' Boys." Created by writer-producer Gy Waldron and inspired by his own 1975 bootlegging comedy,Moonrunners,Dukesmilked seven seasons of material from the tale of a Deep South family of reformed whiskey-makers and their running feud with a greedy impresario and his chief lackey, a buffoonish, venal sheriff.This three-disc set includes all 13 initial episodes ofDukesfrom 1979, a period fans fondly recall because some of the programs were shot on location in Covington, Georgia, rather than a Burbank backlot. Also noteworthy is that a couple of key characters, particularly Hazzard County's corrupt lawman, Roscoe P. Slipping into the boots made famous by John Schneider and Tom Wopat, Seann William Scott and Johnny Knoxville play moonshine-selling cousins, Bo and Luke Duke. Along with their ridiculously gorgeous cousin Daisy (Jessica Simpson) and joke-telling Uncle Jessie (Willie Nelson), the Duke boys love to get the goat of Hazzard County's most crooked law enforcement officials, including Sheriff Rosco P. Coltrane (M.C. Gainey) and county commissioner Boss Hogg (Burt Reynolds). But when they discover that Boss Hogg is using his leverage to run them off their farm in order to turn Hazzard County into a strip mine for coal, things get personal. With the help of their faithful friends, Bo and Luke set off on their riskiest adventure yet. Showing his reverence for the classic 1980s show, Chandrasekhar incorporates freeze-frames, humorous narration, and extended action sequences, resulting in a crowd-pleasing romp that promises to introduce a whole new generation of fans to the Duke boys. While Scott, Knoxville, and the scantily clad Simpson deliver the goods, it is The General Lee the pair's electrifying orange Charger that steals the show.

Directing "The Dukes of Hazzard" is Jay Chandrasekhar, who other than directing the middle of the road "Club Dread" has learned his craft with TV shows. To be honest he doesn't really do anything wrong with the film, and capitalizes on one of the key elements of the original show, and that is the car chases featuring the General Lee, which he does to maximum effect. I suppose anyone who takes on a remake of a classic TV series takes on the risks associated with it and stands more chance of making a box office flop than hit. In Chandrasekhar's case I think he has done an admirable job, but just lacked the experience to make this better.

Back in 2000 Charlie's Angels was revamped for the big screen and made a decent amount of money. It was by no means a good film but got by just by being a bit of fun. So what other small screen gems could be turned into cash cows? Well The A-Team has often been mentioned but so far it's not materialized. For what it's worth I'd gladly sit through an A-Team movie on the big screen if it were done well. The Dukes of Hazzard was never a good TV show. It was just the same old stuff every week; it just happened to pass the time and caught an audience. But does the material justify a movie?

...With nothing to watch on the TV during the bloody football I have been picking up some bargain DVD's to pass the time. The Dukes of Hazzard is one of them.
THE FILM
The film starts with Bo and Luke driving around in their car, The General Lee, and being chased by cops. They eventually escape the cops but the car is wrecked. The cops are after the cousins as they are plotting to turn the town of Hazzard into a mine. The cousins stumble upon a building site when they crash their car and they decided they need to find out why it is there.
The General Lee finally makes it to the garage for repairs as Bo plans to race it in the big race a few days later where he is determined to beat the 4 times champion, Billy Pritchard, who has returned to race. The Mayor of Hazzard, Boss Hogg, played by Burt Reynolds, has bought and paid...
