DRUMS ALONG THE MOHAWK is John Ford's first film in Technicolor (which recently perfected far richer shadings of colour than had previously been possible), and the director uses it to stunning effect. The film stars Henry Fonda as Revolutionary War-era farmer Gilbert Martin, who, in 1776, has returned with his well-born wife, Lana (Claudette Colbert), to his rustic cabin in the increasingly dangerous Mohawk River valley. At first unaccustomed to the harsh physical challenges of frontier life, Lana adjusts to the work at hand and is soon able to help her husband in the fields. Shortly after they learn that the colonies are at war with the British, their farmhouse is attacked and burned to the ground by a party of Tory-led Indians. The feisty Widow McKlennar (Edna May Oliver) provides temporary shelter for the couple, but it's only a matter of time before the Indians launch a more brutal assault. Save for THE QUIET MAN, DRUMS ALONG THE MOHAWK contains the richest passages of pastoral imagery in Ford's entire canon, the visual beauty nearly upstaging the spectacular and terrifying Indian battles. The performances, particularly Oliver (who garnered an Oscar nomination) as the vinegary widow and the superbly stoic Fonda, enable Ford to again demonstrate the heroism and limitations of rugged individualism. The scenes of an Indian prisoner spread-eagled on a wagon and Gilbert's escape are repeated almost exactly in the 1982 dystopian classic THE ROAD WARRIOR.
Advantages: The best series ending of all time Disadvantages: The arrival of more long term stories
...And now its time to wrap up series 3 of Doctor Who’s reviews; and impressed as I was with the third volume of releases this forth volume blew me away.
For the first time in the series the 3 stories actually run very much as if they are all one, in stead of the usual two parter’s Utopia, The Sound Of Drums, and The Last Of The Timelords become a three part “Epic”.
Utopia
Having hitched his way on the side of the Tardis the Doctor, Martha, AND NOW Captain Jack arrive on a planet at the end of the universe. Here a group of humans are struggling to leave for the planet Utopia. Professor Yana and his faithful companion Chan. Yana wants to save his people, but his failing memory and old age seems to be preventing his completion of essential equipment; all the time the sound of drums beating in his head.
The first of many...

Advantages: Great cast and acting Disadvantages: Plot a bit slow in places
...Along Came Polly:
Along Came Polly has all the credentials of being a great film. It is written by one of the co-writers of the hugely funny and successful Meet the Parents (John Hamburg)and it stars three of the US's hottest actors: Ben Stiller (Starsky and Hutch, Meet the parents), Jennifer Anniston (Friends and Bruce Almighty) and Debra Messing form the hit US sitcom Will and Grace. Somehow though, Along Came Polly doesn't hit the mark for me and you are left wondering, where did Polly go???
The Plot;
Reuben Feffer is the slightly anal character played by Ben Stiller who's professional is as a senior risk auditor and everything in his life is centred around how dangerous or risky something might be. The film opens as Reuben is marrying his new bride (played by Debra Messing) and they set on to a tropical island...

...Along came polly is a romantic and comedy movie starring Jennifer Anniston and Ben Stiller.
Reuben Feffer (Ben Stiller) has just got married , when on their honeymoon his bride dumps him for a muscly scuber diver instructor.
Reuben is hurt and shocked that his new wife would do this to him and so soon after they get married.
By coincidence Reuben soon bumps into an old school friend Polly , played by Jennifer Anniston.
Together they go salsa dancing and try spicy foods!
They then fall for eachother!
A great happy ending to a sad story with some classic comedy moments too - for example when Reuben has the squits after a spicy meal at Polly's house and she wanders what's taking him so long in the bathroom! I was in stiches when I saw this!
I give this movie 10/10!
The dvd features Deleted scenes and outtakes plus loads...
