Drumline DVD

Main specs

Actor(s): Nick Cannon, Zoe Saldana, Orlando Jones, Leonard Roberts

Director(s): Charles Stone III

Genre: Drama - Comedy

Classification: Parental Guidance

Production Year: 2002

Running Time: 1 hour 58 minutes

Video Category: Feature Film

Plot: Charles Stone III's crowd-pleasing drama spotlights the previously unheralded world of university marching bands--more specifically, the cut-throat world that energises Southern black campuses. Devon Miles (Nick Cannon) is a Harlem teenager who receives a full scholarship to attend Atlanta A&T University based on his excellent percussion talents. However, making the transition from hip-hop street drumming to the drumline of the school's legendary marching band is more challenging than Miles expected. For one, the band director, Dr. Lee (Orlando Jones), is determined to reclaim the national championship using old-school tactics, even though his traditional beliefs appear to be leaving A&T in the dust. And then there is Sean (Leonard Roberts), the current drum leader, who is threatened by Devon's skills and frustrated by his fierce individuality. These antagonistic forces, as well as the addition of a cheerleading love interest (Zoe Saldana), combine to test Devon's previously unshakeable confidence. As the season builds toward the BET Big Southern Classic and a showdown with rival Morris Brown University, Devon must swallow his pride and learn to be a team player if he wants his band to win the championship. DRUMLINE proves that any subject can make for an invigorating work of entertainment, if handled properly.

How She Move Simply Fails To Move
Review of How She Move DVD by  tayloa22

Advantages: The dancing, Music, partial storyline
Disadvantages: Acting, not enough dancing, locations, character development

...catalogue of DVD's has a few dance/musical films. When I caught wind of How She Move I immediately sought out a trailer and was motivated by what I saw patiently awaiting its arrival here in the U.K. and it features a style of dance called stepping. A brief explanation of Stepping ♥ Being featured in films such as Stomp The Yard and Drumline Stepping incorporates a militaristic drill along with native tribal African dance as well as the Welly "Gumboot" Dance. With this style it is not just the feet that are important or the sole focus, it actually utilises the whole body as well as voice with hand, arm movements as well as clapping and gymnastics. Some routines have very intricate moves that can be quite risky and whilst it can be a solo dance it is largely done by crews to create percussion rhythms and sounds... Read review

Soccer AM 2 the DVD
Review of Soccer AM 2 DVD by  mjgfish

Advantages: Good laughs and great goals
Disadvantages: Only 58 minutes long

...Soccer AM is a Saturday morning show on Sky sports one every Saturday and it helps cover the English football leagues from the week before and what games are going to be played for the following week. It also has other features like about 3 different guests will come onto the show e.g. one could be an injured footballer, one could be a celebrity and another could be a few band members for a music group. Not only do they have guests and football highlights they also have 8 fans in from a certain football team and some of the crew members have their own part of the show like Tube's question. No this is a big hit on TV soothe first DVD, Soccer AM 1, was quite good so this DVD had good expectations. In Soccer AM 2 it is different to the normal show as they like to focus on a certain idea that do just another show but on a DVD so... Read review

The best film I have seen and an above average DVD
Review of The Matrix DVD by  ickle_devil

Advantages: the film, some geat extras
Disadvantages: i wanted more

...Being a DVD virgin you will have to be kind to me and put up with me lack of knowledge on what to write in a review of a DVD. Well the way I see it I love the film and have recently acquired the DVD, from a friend, and so thought what the hey, I mean I have nothing better to do with my Saturday afternoon (well i did so really add Sunday night to that too). The Matrix was one of the biggest films in its year of release, and rightly so, this is a fantastic film that has both style and substance. It is superb and personally I cannot knock it. Many people took the feeling that this was just special effects, wrong the story is so intricate and complicated you cannot watch it only once. This is one of those films that revels something new every time you see it and never fails to entertain. So here goes, the confessions of a virgin... Read review
