together to cover the songs of an influential group, here we have a bunch of more or less well-known DJs (including members of Goldie's Metalheadz crew) remixing and reconstructing actual recorded works in their own image, namely with drum and bass (a.k.a. jungle) beats. In this case, the object of affection is Art of Noise, a clear forerunner to the current boom in sampled and spliced dance music. The Drum and Bass Collectionis the latest in a series of Art of Noise remix compilations, following 1990'sThe Ambient Collectionand 1991's more techno- and rave-oriented release,The Fon Mixes. Considering thatDrum and Bassis, thus, the third new Art of Noise record since the group disbanded eight years ago, perhaps the only tribute here is to the infinite possibilities for recycling old songs in this high-tech age. Then again, there's little here to suggest these tracks have anything to do with Art of Noise. For instance, in the hands of the London duo Flyright, Art of Noise's hit "Peter Gunn" (itself a drastic remake of the '50s television theme) loses all traces of the original's most distinguishing feature, Duane Eddy's twang guitar lead line. Similarly, Lightfoot's reworking of "Yebo," Art of Noise's 1989 collaboration with South African singing group Mahlathini and the Mahotella Queens retains only two syllables of the original vocal part. The question, then, is: If the rhythms are altered and the melodies disappear, what makes this an Art of Noise record? The answer: nothing. But, then, in the strange world of techno, all matters of source material and songwriting are bound to remain fuzzy. Do yourself a favor: Keep all inquiries to yourself and just concentrate on those crazy beats.--Roni Sarig

Let me tell you I have a good collection of this great Australian band both on CD and DVD but FAMILY JEWELS on DVD is really rather special.
Its totally packed with tracks, twenty on each DVD so you get two and a half hours of bliss. Everytime I slip Family jewels in the DVD player its a time to turn up the volume (make sure everybodys out ) and enjoy.
On DVD 1, its the original singer the late great Bon Scott era starting off with' BABY PLEASE DON'T GO' that will take you back to 1975 through to 1980 with 'HIGHWAY TO HELL'. Listen out for IT'S A LONG WAY TO THE TOP (1976) on track 4' which always get's me going.
DVD 2, Brings in the current AC/DC singer Brian...

Advantages: 2 hours of the liveliest rock performance ever captured on DVD + extras Disadvantages: None... well, I guess you'll need a DVD player.
...feel quite like a Radiohead track but I'll let that go ;)
9. Drive. This is an adaptation of the original track from "Make Yourself" and is absolutely fantastic. Sometimes I'll start the DVD on this track.
10. Vitamin. This track is modified slightly too. For those of you who have heard the original on the "S.C.I.E.N.C.E" album will know that there is a little weird synth bit. Well, this is replaced with an amazing percussion and drumming spree where even Ben Kenney (the new base player) joins in! Great track; It really shows that incubus still know how to jam.
11. Pistola. A real crowd pleaser with an amazing finish. Originally from "A Crow Left of the Murder"
12. Stellar. If you are an incubus fan you'll know this track from "Make Yourself" well. I'm very pleased it features on this DVD. Another one of the tracks that really makes...

Advantages: Excellent movie and very good DVD extras Disadvantages: Some repetition of interviews
...an intrepid band of men, elves, dwarves and hobbits who must undertake a perilous journey in order to destroy a magical ring. Sauron, the Lord of Darkness and his minions (orcs, goblins, waugs, ogres and the nasty Nazgul) are intent on stopping this destruction.
The movie is an epic, with beautiful photography, great acting, wonderful sound and music and excellent special effects. It simply brings Tolkien’s world to vivid life.
The DVD extras are good generally consisting of several documentaries, a music video and some in depth featurettes. There is some repetition, but with over one and a half hours of features this does enhance the DVD.
This is simply a must for all DVD collectors.
My only gripe is that there is a 4-DVDcollection to be sold in a few months – what a con!!!
