Small upheaval in newsroom, not many laughs.
Review of Drop The Dead Donkey - Series 1 DVD by  Chouchinciao

Advantages: Sharply observed current affairs humour
Disadvantages: Stereotyped characters

...at the second or third series. Certainly I recall characters who don't appear in these episodes - Joy the nihilist office assistant for instance. So I think the verdict would have to be that it needs time to settle down. The acting itself is first-rate. There are no big stars or household names in the cast, although you may recognise Stephen Tompkinson from "Ballykissangel" and Haydn Gwynne from "Peak Practice". No-one gets all the best lines, there is a good balance between the actors and the comic timing is excellent. This package is rated "12" and comprises 2 DVDs with 10 half-hour episodes, an unaired pilot and interviews with members of the cast and the two writers Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin. I am a great admirer of Andy Hamilton, who is a regular on Radio 4's "News Quiz", and parts of his interview were funnier than Dead Donkey... Read review

Almost a Whirl Wind Adventure
Review of Shrek 2 (Animated) by  nathaninnit

Advantages: Characters to love and funny to some
Disadvantages: Would have liked to see more the landscape

...informs him that Princess Fiona is on her honeymoon - with Shrek! (Mike Myers). And so rolls out the story of Shrek and Fiona having a happy honeymoon, romantically laying on beaches with mermaids and less romantically, being chased by angry famers with flaming torches (what a fairy tale stereotype). Arriving back at the swamp, the still happy couple find Donkey (Eddie Murphy) has been watching their home, although he's less than willing to leave to give husband and wife space as he's having troubles of his own with his romance from the original movie - Dragon. Surprisingly Dragon does not actually feature in the movie, although I do believe there are extra scenes on the DVD that include Dragon and Donkey. As Donkey finally is about to leave, messengers from the royal family of Far Far Away arrive to inform Shrek and Fiona... Read review

Review of South Park - Bigger, Longer And Uncut DVD by  welshlad33

Advantages: very funny, controversial
Disadvantages: none unless you are easily offended

...If you like the tv series of South Park you will love this feature lenght offering. Even if you dont like the tv series, you will probably enjoy this film as it is much funnier and ruder. I watched an episode of the tv series a few years ago and to be frank, I wasnt impressed in the slightest. However, while at a friends house somebody put the video of the movie on and I started to watch and within minutes was in fits of laughter.I have since purchased the video and have watched it many more times. The story is about how a war breaks out between the U.S and Canada following Stan, Cartman, Kyle and his baby brother Ike and Kenny watching a Canadian film starring 2 boys called Terence and Phillip. The film is titled Asses of Fire and is full of swearing and farting.Due to the kids learning a whole new vocabulary of swearwords Kyles mum...
