... One of the things I bought to help me with my theory test was the Focus Driving Test Success:Hazard Perception dvd. Apologies I've you've read my other review on a Hazard Perception dvd - they are different.

seriously consider theDriving Test Success Hazard PerceptionCD-ROM. You get over 100 video clips shot from the driver's viewpoint on two CDs depicting a wide range of potential hazards in all sorts of different driving conditions. The discs cover pedestrian, town, city, motorway, main road and rural hazards, so a clip might find you "driving" at night on a wet motorway, or negotiating a narrow street with badly parked cars or an unloading lorry, driving through fog, or negotiating roadworks, busy motorways and quiet country lanes. As each clip is played you have to watch the action carefully, clicking the left mouse button as soon as you see a developing hazard. You can click the mouse more than once (indeed, on some clips there's more than one hazard) but the software's clever enough to "watch" what you're doing, so that if you just click constantly in the hope of accidentally highlighting the hazard, it'll tell you you're cheating and give you no marks. From the main menu you can practice on a video clip--these are chosen randomly--or take a mock-up of the test itself. There's a selection of tips and tricks to help you understand what a developing hazard is and how you should react to it and the program also helps you start to associate specific kinds of hazards with particular settings (for example, you're unlikely to find a parked ice-cream van on a motorway and thus, won't have to worry about children running out in front of it).One important point to consider. The authors have confirmed that their video tests are functionally different to those you'll get in the actual exam room. For example, the DSA positions its camera on top of the car rather than inside--in addition, the invisible markers which dictate at what moment you should click to recognise an oncoming hazard and score high marks are slightly different. That aside, the program offers well-presented practice for learner drivers that will stand them in good stead when it's time to take the test. --Rob Beattie

*What Is Hazard Perception?*
In 1996 the Theory Test was brought in as part of passing your driving test, to ensure new drivers knew the Highway Code. Advantages: Quite a few clips to try out Disadvantages: Not really any actual advice
...if they're not, that you're driving instructor should have told you. This aspect will only be useful to people taking the test entirely on their own and then it will familiarise you with the setup of the test, and run you through what will happen when you go to the test centre. Which is quite useful as it means nothings unexpected when you actually get there.
The rest of the CD is made up of sets of three clips from hazard perception tests, you ... ...whenever you see a hazard, just like in the actual test. You then get a chance to see how well you did, and get to see which hazards were the important ones. There are also a few examples of full length tests you can run through and see what final score you would have got. And that's about it. It is useful, it's good to get the practice of going over clips, it lets you know what the test is like, but it doesn't really give you any tips or advice ...

Advantages: Good practice for theory test, makes you more aware of hazards. Disadvantages: Not many clips to test yourself with.
...three pages dedicated to the dvd's licence agreement. I think there could have been more helpful information given in the booklet, and maybe even a short test for you to do.
*Verdict.*
I am glad I got this dvd, but mainly because I didn't find another HazardPerceptiondvd until a couple of weeks after I bought this, so I had an extra two weeks learning and practice. However, if I went into a shop to buy one of these dvds and had a choice of the DSA dvd or the Focus HazardPerceptiondvd (which was the later one I bought), I would buy the Focus dvd without a doubt. When asked if I'd recommend to others buyers, I've said no - because I wouldn't recommend it unless it was the only hazardperceptiondvd available.
