2001 - Action/Adventure - Renny Harlin - English - Parental Guidance - Sylvester Stallone, Stacy Edwards, Gina Gershon, Estella Warren, Kip Pardue, Robert Sean Leonard, Til Schweiger, Cristian De La Fuente, Burt Reynolds more
I was shocked watching this movie because it came to me that Sylvester Stallone had actually made a movie that didn't suck that bad.
A young hotshot driver is in the middle of a championship season and is coming apart at the seams. A former CART champion is called in to give him guidance.
The themes sadly were no where near original, someone who has retired from there profession comes back to do a job only they can succeed at (Sylvester Stallone), while a young famous person try’s to deal with the pressures of their new found fame (Kip Pardue), insert large yawn here. As for the realism...there is none. 1. Girlfriends are not allowed to be in contact with the driver during the race. 2. Not all crashes are huge explosions And 3rd head on crashes don't cause cars to fly hundreds of feet through the air.
There are good parts though, great camera shots including fast moving city skylines and tense extreme close ups of drivers speeding by at 195mph. While characters did have some flaws, they had good relationships and convincing objectives. The fast street racing are enough to push you back into your seat and the soundtrack combines with the action to capture the soul of race day, including song such as Leroy "Good Time", Fatboy Slim "Right Here Right Now" and LeAnn Rimes "Soon".
Worth watching if you want to see some action, Stallone not coming out at the very top or if there’s nothing else good on.
