Driven is the new Sylvester Stallone movie - he not only stars but also wrote the screenplay for it. It tells the story of an old has-been racing driver who is desperate to get ack intothe racing scene. he gets a call one day from wheel chair bound racing boss Burt Reynolds who wants him to act as co-driver and mentor to his hot new star. Of course Stallone accepts and we have the old guy, new guy relationship building from them. The new star of course has his rival in the form of a big-headed german driver(sound familiar?..lol) and not just on the track but off it as well in the form of the obligatory blonde bird who wanders between the two drivers. Will he get te girl and win the championship? Oh, I bet you can't wait to see!
Well, I'm not about to tell you but then Stallone wrote it and all he does is keep writing Rocky over and over so you go figure it out. In fact forget the plot altogether because there isn't one really, all this movie is, is an excuse to show lots of CART racing in various different locations. But indeed forget the racing, this movie is just an excuse to show lots of crashes and explosions on the CART track rather than the racing itself. Fans of motor sport are going to hate this because it basically defies the laws of physics constantly and the computer generated effects look rather naff as well it has to be said. Acting? Well, Stallone plays Stallone again and the rest are adequate...oh and who keeps giving Burt Reynolds a job these days? I thought we got rid of him years ago!
As a verdict i would say give this movie a miss, unless you like action for actions sake - and not very good action either. It all looks too fake and the macho posturing and visor lowering gets more than a little wearing after a while - like the first 5 minutes. Its not a good movie and I would suggest you drive on by when it hits your cinema.
