Advantages: Cute story, funny in parts, good performances, Disadvantages: Over sentimental, pretty predictable
- Introduction -
Drillbit Taylor is a movie that comes from the people behind Knocked Up and Superbad, or so the TV ads say anyway. This is the more family friendly version of those movies though, its not as rude as those movies I believe but it does have its own share of humour, being a comedy movie, of course. This is also the last movie that Owen Wilson had worked on before *that* incident in August, I believe filming finished in May or June ... ...main acting cast) -
Drillbit Taylor tells the story of two rather geeky teen boys (Wade, played by Nate Hartley and Ryan, played by Troy Gentile) who have trouble fitting in at high school, after they try to defend another pupil (Emmit, played by David Dorfman) who gets badly bullied by the big school bully, Filkins (played by Alex Frost), on their very first day of high school. This is, obviously, not the best move for them personally, as it meant ...

Advantages: good for all. Disadvantages: not enough action.
...the cheapest - comes from Drillbit Taylor, a down-on-his luck soldier of fortune who lives a homeless - he likes to say "home-free" - existence on the beach. He enrolls them in some physical and mental training. When Drillbits friends find out about this they all see this as a money making opportunity by robbing their houses.

My Verdict:
This is a very good movie its not to violent for children to watch and its full of humour, the character I enjoyed the most in the film was the little plum kid, I thought he was so funny, especially in the bit where he has a rap off with filkins and slaughters him. Its got a bit action in it but its set ...

Advantages: Quite funny, a feel-good comedy for the kids Disadvantages: No great performances, predictable plot
...When three kids who have just started high school find themselves being harassed by bullies, they hire a bodyguard to help them. After interviewing a series of unsuitable candidates, they come across the perfect man for the job, DrillbitTaylor (Owen Wilson).
Drillbit is mean, tough, and best of all, charges a very acceptable amount of money for the job. However, the kids don't know that Drillbit is actually a homeless delinquent who, through the pressure of fellow homeless people, is planning to rob one of the kids houses to pawn the possessions.
By Owen Wilson's high standards, this is a very average film. He acts well but not spectacularly in a different role to his normal spiritual, soft character he plays in many films. He doesn't look as natural or comfortable in this film as he did in such films in his earlier career...

There's a great turn from Gentile... The real draw, though, is the ever likeable, ever schmoozy Wilson (Total Film, 10/06/2008)
