That's the way it crumbles... cookie-wise.
Advantages: Amusing feel-good film. Disadvantages: Once you've seen it you've seen it.
The Apartment tells the story of C.C. Baxter otherwise known as Bud played by Jack Lemmon. Baxter narrates the opening for us giving us facts and trivial statistics about New York and about the office he works in. He’s an office worker in a large room full of office workers. He works extremely hard and seems to be very mathematically minded as he relates everything to different mathematical facts and statistics. He also works an extra hour everyday ... ...to wait around outside in the cold until they’re finished and when he is allowed in his boss admonishes him for not having enough liqueur and cheese crackers. Baxter being the push-over he is apologises and promises more. They leave and he is for going to bed but all of a sudden an other boss needs the flat pronto. Without much choice he has to let them in or risk loosing his job so spends the night on a park bench. Not all is bad for Baxter though, ...

"I AM big! It's the pictures that got small!"
Advantages: Great story, performances and screenplay Disadvantages: Erm... genuinely trying to think here... not enough action? Basically none.
When I bought Sunset Boulevard (or is it Sunset Blvd.? I still don't know) I didn't really know much about it, other than that it was a "classic" and that the average rating from the staff of IMDb is 9.5/10, and that's good in anyone's books.
It tells the story of Joe Gillis (played by William Holden), a screenwriter who's a bit down on his luck. His latest film idea isn't too popular, and there are a couple of debt guys on his back, looking to ... ...an old, dilapidated mansion on Sunset Boulevard. Crumbling and decaying, it puts Joe in mind of Miss Havisham and her abode. He hides the car in the garage and goes to leave…
However, the house is not empty. It is home to Nora Desmond (played by Gloria Swanson), a former silent movie queen, who these days isn't doing anything but sitting at home getting fan mail, and writing a script for her next movie, Salomé. She invites Joe inside, and on discovering ...

Smart Work Pythagoras
Advantages: It's Billy Wilder and this is a very little box! Disadvantages: It's 'ard to get 'old of.
...rich husband by taking a double indemnity life insurance policy out on him, Neff becomes a victim himself, Phyllis' victim. He becomes obsessed by her, for him SHE appears the victim, and although he is somehow aware she has a dangerous, almost hypnotic hold over him, he continues with the dreadful scheme.
The couple arrange for Dietrichson's death , Neff carries out the murder and to collect the doubled $100,000 policy payout they make it appear ... ...of shocking his fans, yet Double Indemnity is probably his most memorable performance in any film.
Barbara Stanwyck plays Phyllis to perfection, she's the original Circe, a hypnotic, evil femme fatale without a conscience, but she's elegant, clever and seductive too. And finding himself as Keyes, in a supporting role for once, Edward G Robinson shows us a lonely man, dedicated to his work, whose closest friend is an employee. His nature is obsessive, ...

Fly fishing and drinking in Montana
Advantages: Gentle story, well-filmed Disadvantages: Goes on for too long
...drinks and womanizes and gets a job as a fishing reporter. Then Norman falls in love with the beautiful Jessie. All seems to be going well, for Norman, but Paul is falling into more and more debt from gambling and it seems that he will never be able to find a way out. Is it because he feels he is in his brother's shadow? Will he ever be able to set himself on the straight and narrow? Norman is played by Craig Sheffer, an actor I don't think I have ... ...UK. As Norman, he gives a more than creditable performance, although it has to be said that Norman isn't the most exciting of characters. He is likeable though and the love he clearly has for his brother is touching. I much prefer Brad Pitt as Paul Maclean though. Pitt was still very young at this point (the film was made in 1992), and he looks amazing - but it is his bad boy characters that is so attractive. There is obviously a lot more going on ...
