Pride And Prejudice
Review of Pride And Prejudice DVD by
khiadah
Advantages: Beautiful all over
Disadvantages: Known to be better versions
When I first saw this film I fell in love with it straight away. It was beautifully set and was a brilliant film altogether.
What it is about
The film is mainly centered around a girl named Elizabeth Bennet and her family. Elizabeth is of age to be married which her mother often tries to push her into. Meeting a man named Mr Darcy whos friend likes her sister, she can not help being pushed into getting to know him. Can she admit her true ... ...role perfectly. She definatley reflects the character which Jane Austen portrays in her book. Along with the great acting and beautiful scenery. Another factor that made me fall in love with the film was the beautiful score. Mostly piano, which helps set a certain mood and keeps the film in its need to be relaxed environment. ...

==You fill up my senses.....==
Review of Sense And Sensibility (Wide Screen) by
MistyWhisky
Advantages: Great script, beautiful cinematography.
Disadvantages: 2 hours is never enough to do this great book justice.
Of all the Austen adaptations, and I'm a huge fan, this is my favourite. It's dramatically strong, funny without being silly, really respects the female protagionists and is so beautifully filmed that it is perfect from beginning to end. Emma Thompson has written a great script. She does not use Austen's words verbatim, but has created a witty and thoughtful story so in character with Austen that one doesn't miss the 'essential' lines from the book, ... ...Moggach's adaptation of 'Pride and Prejudice', where every line, every scene brought a groan of disappointment. The one glaring mistake for me was that Thompson left out one of the most heart-wrenching moments of the book, when Willoughby returns to Marianne and Eleanor refuses to let him see her. Whether this was due to time constraints or to it putting Eleanor (played by Thompson) either in a detremental light or knocking her character out of the ...

Bean 'n Gone
Review of Jack And The Beanstalk - The Real Story DVD by
Borg
Advantages: Disc would make a nice Frisbee
Disadvantages: Too many to count.
...and since this, I wonder? Jack (Costello) gets a job babysitting a young prodigy-cum-brat, and Abbott plays his manager. The prodigy-cum-brat is basically a… well… brat. In an attempt to settle the boy down, Jack reads the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. We leave their black and white world and, very ‘Wizard of Oz’ like, we appear in a colourful world where Jack lives with his mother.
The story is pretty much the fairy tale story that everyone ... ...the gist?
However, when Jack starts to climb the beanstalk, along with Abbott – who plays a butcher (Jack swapped his cow for the beans with the butcher – was basically conned, but the giant takes the cow and Abbott wants it back; plus the giant has a goose that lays golden eggs… added incentive for Abbott), the village below bursts into song. This surprised me somewhat as I did not expect that. A bit of ‘filling in,’ I suspected at the time.
But ...

I'll Watch This Again...Maybe Not Today...
Review of Casablanca DVD by
RSH123
Advantages: Great Story, Good Performances, Charasmatic in Black & White, Humourous, Emotional - It's Got Everything!
Disadvantages: None That I Can Think Of
...deals, to try and escape Casablanca to Portugal, where they can then make their way to America and freedom. All this under the nose of a very corrupt Capt Renault, humourously played by Claude Rains.
Rick is an aloof character who maybe dreams of escaping too, but he's doing ok. That is until Ilsa (the beautiful Ingid Bergman) returns to his life. Ilsa accompanies the brave and proud Victor Lazlo (Paul Henreid), who tops the Nazi wanted list. But ... ...their presence? Why does Rick turn to drink...and could he really be that selfish as to turn a man in to the Nazis for his own benefit?
This film had me guessing all the way to the end. It also had me nodding my head going "Ahh NOW I see!" whenever I heard one of those classic lines (some call them cliches but I refuse to see it that way) of which this film gave us so many.
I was captivated by this film. When it was over I thought "Why did it take ...

Grant & Kerr Sizzle In A Beloved Romantic Drama
Review of An Affair To Remember DVD by
eve6kicksass
Advantages: Romantic, extremely well acted and made
Disadvantages: A bit too long and overrated for this reviewer's taste
...passionate films of all time, AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER is a remake of a 1939 film called LOVE AFFAIR, which were both directed with flair by Leo McCarey. Critics seem to be divided on which one of McCarey's films is the superior film…though, to many audiences (including Ciao's own christianfilmcritic), there is just no contest. To them, the latter version from 1957 starring Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr has become a beloved classic, and its status was ... ...That's quite an honor, but is it really deserved? ******************************************************************
P ART TWO: IT STARTED WITH A CIGARETTE CASE…
The film is primarily centered around the relationship of two people, with the first half showcasing their growing attraction on a luxury liner, and the second presenting the inevitable obstacles that keep them from coming together. Nickie Ferrante (Cary Grant, NORTH BY NORTHWEST, BRINGING ...
