Princely Portrayal of Pride and Prejudice.
Review of Pride And Prejudice DVD by MasonEsq

Advantages: An enjoyable, beautifully made film.
Disadvantages: Depth of characterization not always perfect.

A wonderful adaptation of the famous novel by Jane Austen for the screen. The film has been expertly directed and produced with a marvelous soundtrack to accompany it. Quality actors abound in this production, the lead character- Keira Knightley plays Elizabeth and does a brilliant job in portraying the character.Donald Sutherland plays her father and with his usual subtle charm. All actors give an accurate and professional portrayal of the characters, ...
...The production and direction is superb- using awe-inspiring photography in parts- that well-known picture of Elizabeth standing on one of the Pennine peaks, accompanied by by that recognizable theme music in full flow. A beautiful piece of filming. This soundtrack is available on CD and has been in the Classical charts for long periods of time. Flowing and dramatic, it really does make the film one of even more quality and emotion. The story's characters ... Read review

A romantic and transporting movie
Review of Sense And Sensibility (Wide Screen) by rosieemma91

Advantages: Wonderful acting and great setting
Disadvantages: Not for those afraid of a good cry

This is a story which really captures the heart. Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet are perfectly cast. Thompson as the practical Elinor who alway puts everyone and everything before herself and her emotions, and Winslet as Marianne, the flippant and dizzy girl who must grow into a woman. The movie's true as possible to the book by Jane Austen, and is perfect if your ideal night in is sitting with a box of chocolates and lots of tissues on the sofa, ...
...Dashwood family. Hugh Grant is wonderful as the slightly nervous, hopelessly muddled Edward Ferrars, the love interest of Elinor, and Greg Wise is the essence of the fun loving and dashing Willoughby who snares her heart. Alan Rickman is the good looking and secure, yet painfully overlooked Colonel Brandon, and very almost steals the limelight with his distraught portrayl of the Colonel. The setting is perfect, and there are some spectacular views. ... Read review

Grant & Kerr Sizzle In A Beloved Romantic Drama
Review of An Affair To Remember DVD by eve6kicksass

Advantages: Romantic, extremely well acted and made
Disadvantages: A bit too long and overrated for this reviewer's taste

...passionate films of all time, AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER is a remake of a 1939 film called LOVE AFFAIR, which were both directed with flair by Leo McCarey. Critics seem to be divided on which one of McCarey's films is the superior film…though, to many audiences (including Ciao's own christianfilmcritic), there is just no contest. To them, the latter version from 1957 starring Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr has become a beloved classic, and its status was ...
...That's quite an honor, but is it really deserved? ****************************************************************** P ART TWO: IT STARTED WITH A CIGARETTE CASE… The film is primarily centered around the relationship of two people, with the first half showcasing their growing attraction on a luxury liner, and the second presenting the inevitable obstacles that keep them from coming together. Nickie Ferrante (Cary Grant, NORTH BY NORTHWEST, BRINGING ... Read review

Anna and the King personal view
Review of Anna And The King DVD by clairec73

Advantages: Great storyline, fantastic acting and good action shots
Disadvantages: Will not please die hard King and I fans

...Killers) - Jodie Foster as Anna Leonowens (Panic Room, Contact, Nell, Silence of the Lambs) The Film is based on the diaries of Anna Leonowens, who died in Canada, Quebec from a stroke in 1915. I think this is better than the original (King and I) despite my fondness of musicals. The acting is superb and there is a huge cast of extras. I can't imagine how difficult this was to make a film with the costumes (that are superb) and locations involved. ...
...Fiesty teacher, recently widowed who travels to Siam to teach the children of King Mongkut. There she learns that Siam is very different from all that she knows back in England. The film is set in the 1860s and the relationship between the Teacher and the King develops from a cold respect for each others values, into a love interest/ sparring contest. Chow Yun-Fat is magnificent in the title role of the King and plays a philosophical Ruler with ... Read review

I'll Watch This Again...Maybe Not Today...
Review of Casablanca DVD by RSH123

Advantages: Great Story, Good Performances, Charasmatic in Black & White, Humourous, Emotional - It's Got Everything!
Disadvantages: None That I Can Think Of

...deals, to try and escape Casablanca to Portugal, where they can then make their way to America and freedom. All this under the nose of a very corrupt Capt Renault, humourously played by Claude Rains. Rick is an aloof character who maybe dreams of escaping too, but he's doing ok. That is until Ilsa (the beautiful Ingid Bergman) returns to his life. Ilsa accompanies the brave and proud Victor Lazlo (Paul Henreid), who tops the Nazi wanted list. But ...
...their presence? Why does Rick turn to drink...and could he really be that selfish as to turn a man in to the Nazis for his own benefit? This film had me guessing all the way to the end. It also had me nodding my head going "Ahh NOW I see!" whenever I heard one of those classic lines (some call them cliches but I refuse to see it that way) of which this film gave us so many. I was captivated by this film. When it was over I thought "Why did it take ... Read review
