Fun girly chick flick with a few "laugh out loud" moments
Advantages: Fun, girly movie with good quality acting. Defo for the girls Disadvantages: Very predictable, still fun to watch
...Frost, Georgia King.
The story, directed by Nick Moore, starts out with a typical young American girl causing trouble for her father and his partner as she feels her dad has forgotten about her deceased mother. It is clear from the beginning that Poppy Moore is a self loving, selfish, shallow young girl with issues - which her father soon realises, and after one prank too far, he decides to send her to boarding school in England, in hopes she will ... ...little if any respect to the girls at the school, and instantly focuses on her route out of the school back to her normal life. With numerous confrontations with the head girl, Poppy decides she will make her a target to getting her expelled, so she persues the headteachers handsome son (the head girls obsession) in order to frustrate her. After a few days, Poppy soon makes friends with her room mates, and they decide to help her out of the school, ...

Sopranos Season 6 - Wha' cha gonna do?
Advantages: Brilliant directing and acting Disadvantages: Very fast paced, can be hard to keep up
...a fantastic kick start to the season and really performed in true Soprano style.
Unlike many TV shows which tend to deteriorate the longer they go on, Sopranos Season Six lives up to it's true form and is consistent throughout. At the end of episode one Tony is shot by his uncle Junior who's continuing to lose his marbles and has been for some time now.
The following two episodes continue with Tony in a coma in critical condition with little chance ... ...to make it back in the movie industry and produce a Saw/Godfather II slasher movie called Cleaver.
In episode 2 and 3 whilst Tony is in his coma we see him playing a series of events in his mind where it seems he's being shown the way to Heaven maybe? I didn't quite get the gist of it to be honest but basically he has to choose life or death. A Few old characters pop every now and then too, the dead ones of course, Adriana (Chris' fiance) and Tony ...

Six Feet Under
Advantages: Great show, great acting, Disadvantages: Not to everyone's taste, deals with death, expensive DVD set
SIX FEET UNDER
"Six Feet Under" is another Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning American drama series which has had success both sides of the Atlantic. It's had a 'ground-breaking' five-season run on HBO in the States (the same people who brought us Sex and the City) and though I thought we'd only seen the first three seasons over here in the UK, it would appear that four have been aired, as the fifth and final season will go out on E4 on the 16th August.
... ...read episode guides for the first four seasons - be warned though, this will spoil the plot (especially seeing how season four hasn't been aired over here in the UK yet).

Coming of age
Advantages: Great storyline, good characters, modern in an old fashioned way. Disadvantages: In black and white, is in french, can be a little vague.
...most would know it, The 400 Blows and it was the debut film for Francois Truffaut, who not only wrote it, but directed and produced it as well. The 400 Blows was written to reflect on Truffauts own childhood and has been described as a "coming of age" story by some. The lead character is Antoine Doinel; a twelve year old boy living with his mother and father in France. Immediately it is clear that Antoine doesn't have the kind of relationship with ... ...definitely worth it as The 400 Blows is one of my favourite films of all time. And I'm not even a fan of black and white ones. To pick up a copy can be a little tricky as it quite old and unheard of, but just have a look on amazon.com or eBay and you will most likely find it. Mine was bought for me as a gift from a friend and I think that it roughly cost around £20, but that is because as I said, it is hard to get hold of.
I haven't yet seen any ...

An Awfully Big Adventure
Advantages: Fantastic acting and an inspirational story of courage and true love Disadvantages: I don't feel like being cynical today
Truffaut's penultimate film was the biggest commercial success of his career. This is due partly to the presence of two megastars in the form of Gerard Depardieu and Catherine Deneuve, but the film's success was also helped by its cheery portrayal of the French spirit of Resistance in Occupied Paris during the Second World War. Such a spirit may or may not be entirely fictional, but the film still delivers a rousing tribute to the human condition ... ...Jewish husband in the basement for two years. Who better to portray this embodiment of French Resistance than Deneuve who, in addition to being stunning, was at one time France's official face of Marianne, the spirit of the 1789 Revolution? Anyway, the film avoids all the angst involved in films about the Holocaust, and instead tells how the hidden director, Lukas Steiner, regains control of his theatre in hiding, secretly directing his play from ...
