Brideshead Revisited
Advantages: Great DVD Quality, Very Entertaining and Great Value for money Disadvantages: None
...of the very best quality. Brideshead Revisited tells the story of the lives of the aristocratic Marchmain family narrated by a character named Charles Ryder. The story originates from the relationship between Charles Ryder and Sebastian Flyte, the son of Lord and Lady Marchmain. The drama is filmed at Castle Howard in Yorkshire and gives a tour of this thought after stately home. The episodes are pure entertainment from the beginning and make a great ...

Why Do Angels Fear To Tread?
Advantages: Fairly enjoyable period drama Disadvantages: Men and children could find it extremely boring
Where Angels Fear to Tread is a period drama adapted from an E M Forster novel directed by Charles Sturridge. Not having read the novel I honestly can't say how true the film is to the book... It's a PG certificate and runs for 112 minutes. The film stars Helen Mirren, Helena Bonham-Carter, Judy Davis, Rupert Graves, Giovanni Guidelli and Barbara Jefford.
If you're wondering about the title of this review, then I'm sorry it doesn't mean much; I ... ...is set in an area where that sort of thing was far more important than it is nowadays. It was also an era when it was not socially acceptable for widows to remarry so soon after being widowed. Philip is angry initially with Caroline who was supposed to be chaperoning Lilia for allowing her to get "embroiled" with the Italian hunk. Caroline's character goes from dowdy and dull to quite animated and vibrant during the course of the film and Bonham-Carter ...

Beautiful but dull...
Advantages: Wonderful sets, costumes and music Disadvantages: Hard to empathise with characters
This 1988 film is a screen adaptation of Evelyn Waugh's novel of the same name written in the 1930s. It is a tale of marital woes amongst the aristocracy - more specifically Tony and Brenda Last.
When we meet the couple they have been married for seven years and have a young son who is the apple of his father's eye. The family live at Hetton Abbey, the Last family's ancestral pile. Theirs is an idle life taken up with social functions and entertaining ... ...and the two embark upon a passionate affair. Beaver is the kind of young man who appears quite often in novels of this era and covering this level of society - a young man living beyond his means who spend his life staying with others in their country homes and moving on before he outstays his welcome. Certainly it seems that Brenda's involvement is more to do with an escape from her stifling marriage than it is do with Beaver's appeal - indeed he ...

As I walk through the valley of Coolio's shadow of death
Advantages: Powerful and emotional film Disadvantages: Similarity to other films
...John N Smith's 1995 film Dangerous Minds is no different.
Set in an inner city school, it features an ex-marine (Michelle Pfeiffer) who comes into a school and is determined to help the pupils she is faced with, even if it means breaking the rules. Throughout the film, we see the dangers of teachers often left alone with volatile groups, but also the strong bonds that can be forged between individuals with the right help and guidance.
What the ... ...to break away from the dangerous world outside of it. The characters all around her are convincing as well, and it's the sort of film where you have to concentrate quite hard to start with to work out who is who. Further into the film, the individuals become clearer.
The often dark nature of the film makes it all the more powerful. Strong visuals, that don't often shirk away from the harsh reality the film is portraying, mean that the film's power ...

Half Nelson- A Gem of a film
Advantages: Fantastic performance.Beautifully made.has a charm of its own Disadvantages: None
I was meant to see this film for quite a while now and finally saw it the other day. I am so sorry that I neglected this film for so long; a quality film like this shouldn't wait to be watched! Directed and co-written by Ryan Fleck, it stars Ryan Gosling. Ryan Gosling plays Dan Dunne, a school teacher who has drug problems himself. The film is just based on Dan's interaction with students which comprises most part of his life. One of the main focus ... ...with one of his students who finds him in the school bathroom doing drugs. In one sense the film doesn't have a broad story but the director knows how he wants his film to shape up, he stays with Dan's character the whole time. A film which rests solely on a couple of characters needs to be poignant and intense and this film is nothing short of both. Ryan Gosling is the soul of the film, playing a school teacher who is a free thinker. His character ...
