Seagal Entertainment

Advantages: The full works, all of Stevies best - Unmissable
Disadvantages: Be Prepared for a waning, breathless Seagal at the end of them all.

...glass of fizzy pop, awaiting the great spectacle that is Steven Seagal. In "Nico" he is born in Chicago, originally from Italy, and with a martial arts expertise perfected in Japan - truly a worldwide jester. He is just hilarious - if you really cannot be bothered working out how he will, again, get out of an otherwise ominous situation you want Steven Seagal movies. Its a stress - free decongestant that takes you away from your hectic life. Its ...
...makes them worth buying is the unbelieveable pleasure derived from watching this charecter - always an Ex cop, or marine, or agent or an ex convict. All in all, this epic set of DVDs will give you a rollercoaster sensation as it showcases the progress (or eventual lack of it) of the best action hero in the world. ...

A David Lynch teen movie(???!!)

Advantages: A real challenge to the brain cells, if you're up for it!
Disadvantages: Unwatchable as a stand alone feature.

...in 1992. For the uninitiated: Twin Peaks was a show that took television by storm at the start of the 1990s. It followed Special Agent Dale Cooper and his attempts to solve the murder of teenager Laura Palmer. The series ran two seasons before a totally polarising finale and cancellation in 1991, the fans were hungry for more whilst the general public were left scratching their heads in puzzlement. I was firmly in the first camp. David Lynch’s television ...
...a conventional whodunnit theme and moments of buttock clenching terror was like food and drink to my fertile teenage mind. Kyle McLaughlin played Agent Dale Cooper (or ‘Coop) an incredibly wholesome and principled federal detective with spiritual influences who battles both the physical and spiritual worlds to solve his case. The series was unique in that the focal point of the series only appeared in flashback, ‘Fire Walk With Me’ introduces Laura ...

The Mighty Sharon Stone?

Watch before you make up your mind

Advantages: Poses very interesting questions
Disadvantages: Harry Dean Stanton is underused as Saul

Watching The Last Temptation of Christ again after about ten years it is easy to see why it got the puritans pants in a twist. It also asks questions that no one has asked (specifically not on-screen) before. It poses ideas and gives a new slant on the New Testament – who was the man Jesus and was he just a man like you and I? Best to go into the film with an open mind rather than lambasting it straight away. Director Scorsese has chosen a great ...
...able to emote the feelings of great responsibility and desperation. Standout performances by Harry Dean Stanton as Saul give great lasting roles. This film is a long way from the Cecille B DeMille films of the 40s and 50s which offer a sanitised view of Christs life, nor is it like Zeffereli's Jesus Of Nazereth. It is a faithful recreation of the times even Peter Gabriels soundtrack uses authentic musical instruments (apart from one sequence where ...

Close Your Eyes

Advantages: Profound period drama with wonderful cinematography and soundtrack
Disadvantages: Dubbed singing voices. Little dialogue.

The Man who Cried is a rather strange film which despite a number of shortcomings still managed to captivate me - I loved it! The film, made in 2000 and released on DVD in 2003, is a period drama with music intergral to its plot. As the title suggests, there is an emotional storyline however the title is a little misleading. There are two prominent male characters, both of whom do cry. But the film is in fact about a young girl, Fegel aka Suzie (who ...
...her roots. The film opens with Fegel, as a wide-eyed engaging child, happily playing hide and seek with her devoted father in a Jewish farming village in 1927 Russia. 5-year-old Claudia Lander-Duke, plays the young Fegel, with an awesome ability. No-one could remain unmoved as she bewilderedly watches her father leaving for America in search of work and fortune, or as she is traumatically separated from her grandmother when her village is attacked ...
