Still Powerful 32 years on
Advantages: An absolute classic, De Niro at his best
Disadvantages: None
...in this role as the Taxi Driver marginalised from regular society. He plays Travis with such conviction that is unlikely to have possibly replicated by any other actor, this is something Scorcese acknowledges. This performance has to rank amongst the greatest ever in cinema history and the film has to be considered likewise.

A shocking and disturbing modern masterpiece.
Advantages: Excellent performances, superb score from Bernard Herrmann, gorgeous cinematography.
Disadvantages: Some might be disturbed by the violent ending.
One of the great things about this film is how contemporary it still feels, if it wasn't for the youthful skin of the big name cast this could easily be mistaken for a modern urban drama. Scorsese has many tricks up his sleeves and his experiments pay off in a skillfully directed film. The camera maintains a feeling of awkwardness and claustrophobia. Triple - Raging Bull, Ronin & True Confessions
Advantages: Classic De Niro, 3 classics for the price of one
Disadvantages: Very different films and possibly not to everyone's taste
A truly excellent box set for any discerning De Niro fans, with possibly one of his best performances - barring Taxi Driver - as Jake La Motta in Raging Bull ... a truly epic film. De Niro is abley supported by the excellent Joe Pesci as brother Joey La Motta, in this cinematic masterpiece based upon the life of the middle-weight boxer from the late 40's early 50's. Raging film, no bull
Advantages: All time classic
Disadvantages: Violent scenes
Easily one of the most powerful films I have ever seen. It gets better and better with each viewing. Martin Scorsese is one of the greatest film makers of all time, and this film is one of his best. The story of how boxer Jake LaMotta watched his career and marriage crumble under the weight of his violent temper and deep-rooted misogyny is told with no punches pulled (excuse the bad pun), as Deniro (in what may be his best performance) and Scorsese ...
...what ultimately may have pulled him back. The boxing scenes easily rank with the most brutal and violent moments ever put on film, shot in stark, unadorned black and white and utilizing unlikely sounds including shattering windows and animal cries to great effect.
